NPP’s ‘Thank-You Tour’ Exposes Deep Identity Crisis

NPP

The NPP crisis appears to be deepening as prominent lawyer and media personality, Richard Dela Sky, sharply criticized the party’s recent “Thank-You Tour,” calling it an ill-timed move that reflects a grave misreading of the political moment.

In a blistering critique, Dela Sky questioned the logic and purpose behind the tour, launched merely four months after the party’s humiliating electoral defeat.

He warned that the tour threatens to derail the much-needed rebuilding process and plunge the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into deeper disarray.

“No serious political party—worthy of the name—would indulge in a so-called “thank-you tour” four months after a catastrophic electoral defeat, one that has left its credibility in tatters.

“This gross miscalculation reflects a startling absence of strategic leadership at, perhaps, crucial levels—the kind that recognizes some things belong behind closed doors, where genuine rebuilding demands carefully considered discretion and effort, not open warfare.”

Richard Dela Sky

Dela Sky lamented that instead of consolidating its ranks behind closed doors to heal wounds and craft a renewed vision, the NPP has chosen to parade its divisions before the public, risking “full-scale internal strife” and “a reckless sprint toward self-inflicted ruin.”

In his assessment, the tour has failed to serve as a mission of unity and renewal. Instead, it has turned into a public exhibition of the party’s growing divisions.

What was meant to be a time for sober reflection and careful strategizing, he warned, now risks spiraling into a reckless dash toward self-destruction.

He pointed out that the video evidence from the tour vividly captures the troubling reality unfolding within the party.

Strategic Misfire Fuels Internal Tensions

Furthermore, Richard Dela Sky believes that in this critical time for Ghana’s democracy, what is needed from the NPP is not performative contrition, but a serious recommitment to becoming a “united, disciplined, and principled opposition.”

Dela Sky insisted that even if the party’s past in government leaves it with limited moral authority, the absence of a credible opposition would be detrimental not only to the party itself but to Ghana’s democratic health.

“The alternative—a tsunami of internal vendettas—would not only cripple the party and make it an undesirable electoral vehicle but also weaken our dear nation.”

His criticism extended to the larger national implications of the party’s apparent tone-deafness.

He emphasized that the NPP must focus less on internal theatrics and more on national duty.

“Ghana needs a credible and viable opposition focused on governance, not grievances; on the people’s welfare, not political self-immolation; on the rule of law, not it’s my time to rule the NPP. The stakes are far too high for anything less.”

Richard Dela Sky

Anticipating partisan backlash, Dela Sky challenged those who question his right to speak on internal party matters.

Though not a card-bearing member, he stressed that two decades of political reporting have earned him the authority to comment on issues of national consequence—especially when the implications extend beyond party lines.

NPP’s Internal Chaos Undermines Judiciary Defense

Moreover, Richard Sky added that the NPP crisis cannot be divorced from the national political climate.

At a time when Ghana’s judiciary is under siege, he argued that the opposition’s role becomes even more crucial.

In his view, the NPP is failing to mount the kind of robust resistance that democratic accountability demands.

“When a sitting government launches an overt crusade to hound the Chief Justice of the Republic from office—a bare-faced assault on judicial independence disguised as ‘accountability’—this is not the moment for a serious political party to retreat into petty internal squabbles.”

Richard Dela Sky

For Dela Sky, the priority must be a firm recommitment to protecting the fundamental pillars of democracy. He warned that getting caught up in unnecessary distractions only diverts critical attention from the real threats facing the judiciary.

By allowing such diversions, he argued, people inadvertently assist those who, under the pretext of reform, are actually weakening the judiciary and eroding the very safeguards meant to uphold democracy.

In his view, staying focused on defending democratic institutions is more urgent than ever.

“The defense of judicial independence demands resolute focus and united resistance, not partisan navel-gazing while our constitutional foundations are under threat. Stop it already!!!”

Richard Dela Sky

Whether or not the party listens to such impassioned warnings remains to be seen. But one thing is certain—the NPP crisis has become a national concern, not just an internal squabble.

The NPP stands at a dangerous crossroads where misplaced priorities threaten both its future and the democratic balance of the nation.

Without a swift return to strategic focus and unity, the party risks irrelevance—and Ghana risks losing a vital check on government power.
