In a significant political development within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a potential leadership bid has emerged as a central focus, marking what could be a defining moment in Ghana’s political future.

Hon. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, has announced the formation of an exploratory committee to assess the viability of a potential leadership campaign within the NPP.

In a heartfelt public address to party loyalists and fellow citizens, Acheampong reflected on his longstanding commitment to the NPP and the nation, highlighting what he described as a crucial turning point for the party.

He emphasized that the time has come not only to reinforce party unity but to reignite a deeper commitment to the founding values of the NPP.

“I have taken time to reflect deeply on our journey as a Party and on my personal journey within our political tradition. I recognize that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) finds itself at a pivotal juncture, which calls not only for unity but also for a renewed commitment to our core values.”

Hon. Bryan Acheampong

Following strong encouragement from a diverse range of party supporters and after extensive personal reflection and consultation with family and close associates, Acheampong said he has resolved to take the next step by forming a strategic exploratory committee.

“This committee will engage key stakeholders, listen to the voices of our grassroots and constituents, and test the alignment between my vision and the aspirations of our party and the Ghanaian people. To that end, the exploratory committee is expected to share its findings with me within four weeks.”

The committee, according to Acheampong, embodies shared values that go beyond politics.

Its members are committed to fostering job creation, ensuring food security, championing youth and infrastructure development, bolstering national security, and upholding the principles of good governance.

Political Service Anchored In NPP Ideals

Bryan Acheampong, whose political resume spans nearly three decades, offered a brief but impactful recount of his extensive involvement within the NPP.

From humble beginnings as a grassroots organizer to roles as a four-term Member of Parliament, party financier, and Cabinet Minister, his contributions have shaped major policies and political strategies within the party.

These roles, he explained, have enriched his understanding of the strategic vision, hard work, and dedication required to maintain the party’s foundations and advance its political mission.

Acheampong underscored that his loyalty to the NPP remains unwavering and that he remains committed to putting every available resource in service of its ideals.

“They have also deepened my resolve to uphold the NPP’s values with unwavering loyalty and integrity. I have served the NPP faithfully, supported many, and helped shape impactful policies. Everything within me and every resource at my disposal have been put to the service of the party, and I will continue to serve.”

Hon. Bryan Acheampong

To the party’s rank-and-file, Acheampong sent a clear message of reassurance and optimism. “To our foot soldiers and all NPP faithful, I firmly believe in the Party’s capacity to overcome its challenges and once again lead Ghana towards a brighter future.“

He expressed confidence in the NPP’s resilience and its ability to rise above current challenges through discipline, inclusivity, and visionary leadership.

He added that the journey ahead will require not only a firm spirit but also respectful conduct in order to achieve collective progress.

Acheampong’s announcement adds momentum to ongoing internal discussions about the future direction of the NPP. “May we remain steadfast in spirit and decorous in conduct in the pursuit of progress, inclusivity, and effective leadership for Ghana. May God be our helper.“

The party, which has been in the national spotlight following recent electoral cycles, is widely viewed as being at a strategic crossroads.

With this bold step, Acheampong positions himself as a contender capable of galvanizing support from both the party base and national stakeholders.

The political arena now awaits the outcome of his committee’s findings and the clarity it will bring to the NPP’s political future.
