Nana Yaa Jantuah Questions Suspended Chief Justice’s Christian Integrity

Former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party, Nana Yaa Jantuah, has launched a scathing critique of suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo following her recent press conference, accusing her of hypocrisy, melodrama, and an obsession with personal image over national interest.

Jantuah dismissed the Chief Justice’s televised remarks as disingenuous and self-centred, stating, “I didn’t see a Christian yesterday. I saw a fake person – a person who has put on a certain facade.” In her view, the display was anything but reflective of the humility expected from someone professing strong Christian values.

Jantuah emphasized that Christians do not fight their own battles publicly or theatrically, questioning the sincerity behind the suspended Chief Justice’s emotional appeals. She described Torkornoo’s conduct as self-serving and inconsistent with her public image.

Juantuah banked on her knowledge of the suspended Chief Justice Torkornoo’s church, where she also once fellowshipped to drive home her point.

“If she is in Reverend Cudjoe’s church and she behaves in this manner – because she wants to fight her battles herself, even as a Christian – then that is why I’m saying she’s fake”

She said the suspended Chief Justice’s address, which characterized the disciplinary proceedings against her as historic and intimidating, was filled with excuses and premature defensiveness. “She hasn’t even gone through the process. Is she guilty? Is she afraid that something is going to happen to her?” Jantuah asked.

Jantuah questioned the relevance of Torkornoo’s reference to a 44-year-old incident involving the murder of her uncle Major Sam Acquah (Rtd) at the Adu Lodge in Osu, the same venue now used for her disciplinary hearing.

In her view, drawing parallels between past tragedies and current legal scrutiny was a manipulative overreach especially when the suspended Chief Justice wasn’t the only one affected by the many unfortunate happenings in the country post CPP rule.

“Those days affected our lives to this day,” she said, “but we don’t go back to it.”

On the suspended Chief Justice’s claims of being threatened to retire or resign, Jantuah responded, “Who said so? What kind of threat is that? She’s always with a policeman. She has all her security details with her.”

She downplayed suggestions of any real danger and instead suggested the threats were exaggerated for public sympathy in her case.

Political Fingerprints

Jantuah expressed frustration with the media for broadcasting Torkornoo’s address, saying she was surprised they gave her time. “I don’t know if she paid for the air time,” she added, implying that the moment and attention was not only undeserved but possibly manipulated.

She also alleged political interference, claiming that the suspended Chief Justice was allowing herself to be used.

“She is allowing the NPP to mislead her. They are the ones doing this. Don’t you see their fingerprints all over what she’s doing?”

When pressed about whether her views were clouded by personal bias, Jantuah replied emphatically that her judgment remained sound. She cited past encounters with the suspended Chief Justice, referencing a specific incident during limited voter registration.

“We sent a case to court. This woman traveled and left the thing,” she said, indicating her long-held concerns, but insisting that she still remained objective in her analysis of the issues at hand concerning her.

Jantuah also criticized the suspended Chief Justice for focusing excessively on personal consequences such as the loss of retirement benefits rather than on the broader implications for the country. She described the press conference as an act of self-promotion rather than institutional defense.

“Anybody, for me, who speaks about herself but not Ghana – I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with you. Ghanaians are the people who should be looked at.”

Nana Yaa Jantuah, Former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party

In Jantuah’s final assessment, the suspended Chief Justice failed to present herself as a selfless national servant and should not be heeded so far as her defense in the press conference was involved.
