Kuami Eugene’s Bold Haircut Signals Split From Lynx Entertainment

Kuami Eugene

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Kuami Eugene has revealed that his decision to cut off his signature hair marks a fresh start in his music career following his exit from Lynx Entertainment.

The ‘Monica’ hitmaker explained that the change in hairstyle is more than just aesthetics.

According to him, it is a visual representation of his transition from his Lynx-era image into a new phase of personal and professional growth.

“I woke up one morning, and it’s been a long time since I got signed to Lynx. It’s been changing hairstyles from one hairstyle to another, but I’ve not had a haircut for a very long time, for about six years. I’ll twist it, then I will do this, and I will unbraid it, leaving the afro. I changed it just to show a new look and the fact that it’s a new beginning for me from Lynx. It’s a transition from the Lynx boy to your family, sweet boy Kuami Eugene.”

The award-winning musician also disclosed that his departure from Lynx had been in motion for some time, even before public confirmation. He said discussions were already ongoing around the time he released ‘Monica’.

“I wasn’t the first person to put it out there that I left Lynx. Richie did that so after he announced that I’ve left Lynx Entertainment on his account, I had a lot of calls, but people didn’t know that ‘Monica’ time, we were in talks for exits a long time ago.

“When I had ‘Monica’ playing, I was partially out of Lynx a long time, but I just didn’t want to come put it out there, and when I had ‘Belinda’, I was not even at Lynx at all.”

Eugene also addressed public reactions and comments from fellow industry players following his exit from the label.

He acknowledged both the support and criticism he has received, citing notable personalities such as A Plus and MC Portfolio, who have publicly praised his talent and potential.

“I had a lot of calls after Richie said that, and then I had to explain myself to people that I’ve actually done eight years under Lynx Entertainment. It’s been a beautiful journey, and I’ve heard what everybody’s saying. A lot of people are happy. I remember A Plus said something that with Kwame’s talent, if he gets the chance to be on his own with the proper management, he’ll become a very big person one day.”

He also responded to past criticism from rapper Guru, who had suggested that Kuami would struggle after leaving Lynx.

“Guru commented on me flopping when I’m out of Lynx, but he’s a president now. He’s the president of the University of Ghana. I respect that so much, for that sake, I don’t have anything to say about Guru because I respect him so much.

“I used to go and watch his concerts, so it’s a shame when he brought the fight from Richie to me. Then again, he’s a president now, and I don’t think as a president, if he gets another opportunity, he’ll say what he said.”

Kuami Eugene, born Eugene Kwame Marfo, rose to fame after winning MTN Hitmaker in 2016 and later signed to Lynx Entertainment. He is known for hits such as ‘Angela’, ‘Wish Me Well’, ‘Open Gate’, and ‘Take Away’.

A recipient of multiple awards, including the VGMA Artiste of the Year in 2020, Kuami has built a reputation for his songwriting skills and vocal range.

As he embarks on this new chapter, fans and industry watchers are eager to see how he evolves as an independent artist.
