Nana Acheampong, who formed the classic Lumba Brothers music duo with Daddy Lumba in the 1980s, producing countless hits, has emotionally recalled sharing the stage with the deceased musician without knowing this would be his last appearance with the departed legend.

Taking to his official Instagram page, Nana Acheampong, currently 58 years old, shared a video of the performance at the KABFAM Legends Night, held in 2023 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The two, in typical fashion, delivered electric performances as they mounted the stage to sing “Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu”, the first song they recorded together.

“Little did I know this will be our last ever performance together..Menua Charles Kwadwo Fosu, Da Yie,” a reflective Nana Achempong posted.

Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong initially met in Germany in the 1980s when Daddy Lumba had traveled there for greener pastures.

It was during this time that he met Nana Acheampong, who was already doing music with the band Talking Dreams.

Daddy Lumba once disclosed that he was a pure gospel musician and did not have much experience in secular music, or even highlife, for which he became a legend.

Nana Acheampong introduced him to the genre that launched his career into success. The duo eventually shared a love for highlife music, and Ghanaian culture made it even easier.

Realising the chemistry between them and their versatile visions, they decided to form a group, and that’s how the Lumba Brothers came to be.

The Lumba Brothers’ first studio album was “Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu,” which was released in 1989.

The album became an instant hit in Ghana. It was also well received by the Ghanaian diaspora, who fell in love with it as it depicts the struggles immigrants go through when they travel to seek greener pastures.

The Lumba Brothers went their separate ways after some years together and separated amicably without any grudges. They even continued to perform together as Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong.

This video, shared by Nana Acheampong on Instagram, has sparked emotional reactions from social media users, with many sharing their profound condolences with Nana Acheampong.

“Growing up, it was very difficult to differentiate between them ooooo. I didn’t know who was LUMBA and who was NANA ACHEAMPONG till some years later, because their height, complexion, voice, hairstyles, body gestures, everything was the same. Even some music it got to a point I found out it was sang by LUMBA. May your soul rest in peace, Daddy, my EKUONA family brother. Dayie. Much love from New York City 🙏🇺🇸👌🇺🇸🙏.”

Daddy Lumba’s First Wife’s Emotional

Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, shed tears and looked emotional as she appeared at the late musician’s home to mourn with his family.

Akosua Serwaa, who lives in Germany with her four children, flew to Ghana upon hearing the news of their father’s death.

The late highlife musician married Akosua Serwaa after they met in Germany in the 1980s. She was highly influential in his career as she reportedly financed his first album, released in 1989.

Daddy Lumba and Akosua Serwaa welcomed four children in their marriage before they unofficially split after he moved to Ghana.

In the late 2000s, the ‘Aben Wo Ha’ hitmaker reportedly started facing health challenges, including spinal issues that left him bedridden. That left him in Ghana while his wife raised their children in Germany.

Lumba eventually settled down with his second wife, Priscilla Ofori-Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni, who was his nurse and caretaker throughout his health struggles. Odo Broni stayed by Lumba’s side until his death and has been inconsolable throughout this mourning period.

In a video, Akosua Serwaa arrived at Daddy Lumba’s East Legon home. She was seen descending from a car in the company of Ghanaian businessman Kennedy Agyapong, popularly known as Kenpong, a close friend of Lumba throughout his life.

In a photo shared by Bighscout Media, Lumba’s first wife was seen dressed in mourning clothes (black kaba and skirt) with a black headgear to match.

Akosua Serwaa appeared shaken and emotional over her arrival at her late husband’s residence. She walked into the home with teary eyes and was ushered into the presence of Lumba’s extended family.

Ghanaians on social media expressed sympathy with Akosua Serwaa, while others praised her poise even under difficult circumstances.
