Olamide Reveals Music Executive Easier Path

Olamide

Rapper and music executive Olamide has revealed that managing a record label comes more easily to him than being an artist.

The YBNL Nation founder explained that his experience as an artist helps him relate better with the musicians under his label. “It’s way much easier for me being a music executive than an artist because I’m an artist, so I understand the needs of creatives,” Olamide said.

“I know the way we think, I know the way we see things. I know when we are in our element, when we want to run mad, when we’re getting high on our own supply, or high on fame, life, money, and success. So it’s easier for me to deal with creatives. I try not to bite more than I can chew.”

The rapper, who recently released a new self-titled album, stated that while he may be primarily considered a rapper, he refuses to be confined to being solely a hip-hop act.

“I fell in love with music. You can’t box me and call me a rapper or tell me “ this is what Olamide is into.“I love music, and you’re not going to tell me when to make XYZ sound.”

His position on refusing to be restricted as a rapper is reflective of his illustrious career, which has been propelled by his ability to combine his hip-hop influences with other genres like Afrobeats and Fuji.

In his latest album, ‘Olamide’, further underscored this point as it held several Pop songs that captured his hit-making ability.

He shared that while he has become widely regarded for his success as a label executive and businessman, being business-minded can become a stumbling block to creativity.

He, however, stated that he would rather have a combination than just being solely a creative.

Olamide is popularly known for his songwriting, which shone extensively in the career of award-winning superstar Asake, whom he signed to YBNL. He shared that he enjoys writing music more than performing.

In a career that has spanned 15 years, Olamide has become one of Nigeria’s most decorated musicians and successful label bosses

His latest album is another addition to his legacy, which, in an interview, he credits to hard work and divine blessings.

The superstar Nigerian rapper made headlines with his surprising food preferences, revealing a major shift from traditional Nigerian meals to a more health-conscious diet.

The revelation has since sparked widespread reactions online. Olamide opened up about his eating habits when asked about his favourite food. “I’m not a big fan of food,” he said plainly. “Veggies. But I can kill for broccoli.”

He confirmed without hesitation and went on to list some of his current favourites, saying, “I love broccoli, sea bass fish, lamb chops, and even caviar,” which he described as “light stuff.”

While Olamide admitted he used to enjoy them, he explained that he now avoids such meals because of how heavy they make him feel.

He noted that eating Amala and similar heavy dishes often leaves him feeling bloated and sluggish, a discomfort he’s no longer willing to tolerate

The rapper’s comments quickly grabbed attention online, especially after he mentioned his shift away from local staples like Amala, with some fans applauding his discipline while others jokingly mourned his “breakup” with Amala.

One X user, @brtu0_1, reacted humorously, “Broccoli? Don’t worry, if he ever feels hungry properly, he’ll have some amala lol.”

@Olatu125, reacting questioned: “Is Amala heavy?”

@Iam_Adejola wrote, “Well, good to eat healthy, but carbs are needed also, especially for ladies, otherwise every month you’ll be treating iron deficiency anaemia and low sugar deficiency.”

The conversation also carried over to Instagram, where commenters shared mixed views.

“Most people don’t know broccoli is one of the best vegetables. It helps prevent cancer.”

@ashabimajek

“Health is wealth, but omo I can’t skip amala. Bring all the steak, salmon, and mashed potatoes, but abeg, I still need some amala and pounded yams sometimes.”

@shakar_el

“Health is more important than tribal foods, so I support him.”

@daddyzojie kept it simple
