President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Singapore to commence a three-day State Visit designed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand trade and investment between the two nations.

The visit, which places a particular emphasis on building new bridges in education, science and innovation, urban solutions, agribusiness, and the digital economy, marks another significant step in Ghana’s foreign policy outlook under President Mahama.

The President’s trip comes at a time when Ghana is keen on diversifying its economic partnerships and tapping into regions that have demonstrated strong growth, particularly in Asia.

Singapore, known for its efficiency, technological innovation, and advanced economic model, presents itself as an important partner in Ghana’s effort to accelerate development through investment, knowledge exchange, and international trade.

As part of his itinerary, President Mahama is expected to hold high-level bilateral discussions with the President of the Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and the Prime Minister, The Honorable Lawrence Wong.

These meetings are anticipated to focus on deepening cooperation in areas where both countries share aligned aspirations—especially in building resilient economies, promoting sustainable development, and encouraging people-to-people ties.

8th Africa–Singapore Business Forum

In addition to official talks with Singapore’s leadership, President Mahama will also deliver the keynote address at the 8th Africa–Singapore Business Forum (ASBF).

The forum has become a significant platform for fostering commercial links between African nations and Singapore, bringing together business executives, investors, and policymakers to explore opportunities for collaboration.

By headlining the event, President Mahama is expected to highlight Ghana’s economic outlook, government priorities, and specific sectors that offer opportunities for investment.

Another central component of the State Visit will be the Ghana country-specific Investment and Business Forum. This gathering is designed to showcase Ghana’s economic potential to Singaporean investors while encouraging Ghanaian businesses to consider opportunities across Southeast Asia.

The forum will feature both public- and private-sector leaders, underscoring the administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for cross-border business collaboration.

Nations of Shared Vision

Speaking upon arrival in Singapore, President Mahama underscored the shared vision that ties Ghana and Singapore together. “Ghana and Singapore share a forward-looking outlook anchored in innovation, skills, and enterprise,” he remarked.

His statement reflects the growing recognition of Singapore not only as an economic partner but also as a source of technical expertise and governance models that Ghana can adapt to its context.

Singapore’s remarkable transformation from a small port city to a global economic powerhouse is often cited as an example of effective planning, discipline, and innovation-driven growth.

For Ghana, a partnership with Singapore could provide insights into urban development, logistics, and human capital development, areas where the West African nation continues to seek improvements.

The President’s delegation features key government officials and institutional heads whose portfolios align with the agenda of the visit. Accompanying him is Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, who will lead discussions on Ghana’s broader diplomatic agenda and international cooperation.

Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Member of Parliament and Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, is expected to play a pivotal role in outlining Ghana’s trade and agribusiness opportunities to Singaporean stakeholders.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament and Minister for Education, will explore partnerships in educational exchange and skills development, while Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Advisor and Special Aide to the President, is also part of the team.

The delegation also includes Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of State for Government Communications, tasked with communicating the outcomes of the visit to the Ghanaian public and international partners.

Simon Madjie, Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and Francis Kwarteng Arthur, Chief Executive of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), are expected to lead technical engagements aimed at attracting investment and boosting Ghana’s export profile in Southeast Asia.

The visit also reflects a conscious effort to strengthen South–South cooperation, where developing nations collaborate and share expertise to accelerate growth and development.

Ghana and Singapore, though geographically distant, share a commitment to building strong human capital bases and fostering enterprise-driven economies. The expectation is that new agreements and collaborations will emerge from this State Visit, paving the way for concrete projects in both countries.
