President John Dramani Mahama Inspects Ofanko-Nsawam Road Construction

President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s readiness to roll out the much-anticipated Big Push program, beginning next week with a focus on reviving Ghana’s road infrastructure.

Speaking at his Presidential Media Encounter, the President said the initiative represents a central pillar of his administration’s reset agenda and a bold step toward addressing years of neglect in the road sector.

“Next week, I’ll cut the sod in three locations to signal the start of the Big Push program,” President Mahama announced, underscoring the urgency of restoring Ghana’s crumbling infrastructure.

He noted that the first phase of the initiative will primarily target the road sector, given its strategic importance to economic growth and national development. “Everyone will admit that over the last eight years, our road infrastructure has deteriorated remarkably,” he noted.

According to the President, the program is being backed by significant financial commitments drawn from Ghana’s natural resource revenues. He revealed that nearly 14 billion Ghana cedis from oil and gold proceeds have been earmarked this year alone to fund the Big Push.

This level of investment, he explained, reflects his government’s determination to fix longstanding road challenges that have hampered development and productivity across the country.

Ofankor-Nsawam Road

A key project under the first phase of the program is the Ofankor-Nsawam road, a critical highway that has suffered from chronic underfunding over the years.

President Mahama disclosed that the project has now been transferred under the Big Push framework and has already received a financial release of almost 1 billion Ghana cedis.

“This allocation will ensure the speedy completion of the project by the end of the second quarter of next year,” he assured. The President emphasized that the Big Push program is not a one-off intervention but a central element of his broader reset agenda.

He explained that this agenda seeks to restore Ghana’s institutions, rebuild economic resilience, and reposition the nation as a credible and respected voice on the global stage.

“Our reset agenda remains on course, and I’ve remained unwavering in my commitment not only to the promise I made to you in the run-up to the 2024 elections, but to the principles of honesty, transparency, and probity and accountability that define good governance”.

He further outlined his long-term vision for the country, rooted in economic independence and self-reliance. President Mahama expressed confidence that the foundations being laid through the Big Push and other reforms will deliver a more prosperous Ghana, capable of fulfilling the aspirations of both present and future generations.

“I’m resolute in laying foundations for economic recovery, resetting our institutions to reflect the demands of modern governance and enhanced service delivery for every Ghanaian”.

Commitment to National Values

Reflecting on the broader purpose of his administration, the President stated that his leadership is guided by a commitment to national values and the unfinished dreams of Ghana’s founding leaders.

“I’m driven by a deep determination to see the dreams of our forebears for an economically independent and self-reliant Ghana realized in our lifetime. I’m equally determined to restore Ghana’s rightful place as a respected voice and actor on the global stage”.

President Mahama also extended a message of reassurance to Ghanaians, urging continued trust and support as his administration works to deliver on its promises. He said the Big Push, while beginning with roads, represents a broader effort to strengthen national infrastructure, stimulate growth, and improve service delivery for all citizens.

“With your continued trust and support, I’m confident that we will not only meet these goals, but also build a nation that serves the hopes of this generation and the aspirations of generations yet unborn”.

President John Dramani Mahama

President Mahama ended his address with a call for unity and faith in the national journey ahead. “May God bless us all, and may God bless our homeland, Ghana. I thank you,” he said, drawing his media engagement to a close.
