Bryan Acheampong Tipped as NPP’s Most Credible Flagbearer Hopeful

Bryan Acheampong, NPP Flagbearer Aspirant

Yaw Appeateng Yeboah, the Campaign Spokesperson for Team Bryan Acheampong, has declared the Abetifi legislator as the most credible and unifying candidate among those seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.

Bryan Acheampong, a former Minister for Food and Agriculture under the previous administration, is currently on a campaign tour of the Ashanti Region ahead of the party’s flagbearer elections scheduled for January 31, 2026. His campaign has positioned him as a bridge-builder capable of uniting the party’s grassroots and rejuvenating its electoral base for the 2028 polls.

Mr. Yeboah, emphasized that Bryan Acheampong’s reputation across both public and private sectors makes him the standout choice among contenders.

Misunderstanding “Expertise” in Ghana’s Public Policy Debates

“In the face of us building the party, we need somebody that people can easily go to and work with, and that sets him apart. He is a successful entrepreneur and has shown that he is a business leader. In academics, he has shown it all – both in private life and public life. He has distinguished himself as a winner and a go-to person”

He further argued that the NPP must prioritize electing a candidate who not only has the capacity to win elections but can also restore unity and confidence within the party. “We don’t have to look elsewhere if indeed we want to win the 2028 election. He is the best bet for the party, and the grassroots know,” he said.

In his view, Bryan Acheampong’s appeal to the party’s base makes him uniquely placed to consolidate the NPP’s internal structures and deliver victory when the nation later goes to the polls. “Currently, he is the most credible person among his contenders,” Mr. Yeboah added in affirmation of his candidate’s position.

Grassroots Confidence and Regional Support

Mr. Yeboah also addressed the recent wave of endorsements for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, noting that such expressions of support from Members of Parliament (MPs) do not determine the outcome of the party’s internal elections.

This comment followed reports that fifteen MPs from the Eastern Region had declared their backing for Dr. Bawumia. The endorsements drew particular attention because both Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Acheampong have strong political ties to the region.

“We know these 15 friends of ours have declared their support for a different candidate. This, for us, is not a new thing. You have the liberty to decide who you want to support. But we are saying that whoever leads the party is going to be determined by the grassroots.

“We also said that we are going to win in the various constituencies they are representing, and that is enough”

Yaw Appeateng Yeboah, Campaign Spokesperson for Team Bryan Acheampong

According to the campaign team, the strength of Bryan Acheampong’s movement lies in the trust and enthusiasm of ordinary party members across constituencies. His tour of the Ashanti Region has been met with strong attendance from delegates and activists, signalling what his supporters describe as “a growing wave of grassroots momentum.”

Team Bryan maintains that his leadership represents both renewal and continuity – an opportunity to rebrand the NPP while preserving its foundational ideals. They argue that his experience in government, combined with his entrepreneurial and academic achievements, aligns him with the party’s modernisation goals.

The campaign spokesperson stressed that Bryan Acheampong’s vision for the NPP goes beyond internal politics, aiming to re-establish public confidence in the party as a governance alternative in Ghana’s near future.

The Bryan Acheampong campaign is expected to intensify its engagements across all regions in the coming months as the January 2026 primaries draw closer, seeking to solidify its claim of being the most credible path to party unity and electoral victory.

Mr. Yeboah reiterated that the party’s delegates, not endorsements from within Parliament, will determine the NPP’s next flagbearer.
