Human Beast Who Kills, Eats Victims Arrested in Wa

A ‘human beast’ who kills and devours his victims has been arrested in Wa, the Upper West Region of Ghana.

Sheriff Abdulai, 30, popularly known as Sani Mohammed, is alleged to be behind a string of killings in Wa and his victims were mainly watchmen and mentally derailed persons.

He was reported to have confessed to killing fifteen people between 2021 and 2025 removing some vital organs of the victim’s heart, tongue and lungs, which he roasted at the scene and consumed.

He is said to have confessed to committing the crimes during interrogation.

His arrest comes after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno despatched a team of crack detectives drawn from the Police Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) to Wa, to assist the local Police Command to unravel the mystery surrounding the serial murders.

As a result of intense Police collaboration with partners, suspect Mahamuda Lamin, 25 was arrested over the stolen mobile phone of a deceased, Issah Yahaya, a 55-year-old watchman on Sunday September 21, 2025 at Wa-Dobile.

During interrogation, it was alleged that he mentioned Sheriff Abdulai, whose place of abode he could not name as the one who reportedly stole the phone.

Unrelenting to accomplish the mission, the police elicited the support of some opinion leaders and on Monday October 6, 2025 suspect Abdulai was arrested.

During interrogation, Abdulai was said to have freely mentioned four murder cases at Kpaguri, Loho, Kambale, and Mangu which he committed in 2021.

He was reported to have also mentioned eleven more murders he committed at Kulpong-Yeyri, Goripie, TI Ahmadiyya School, Kpaguri near Chorkor Sawmill, Napogbakole among others.

This is a deeply disturbing case, and whether Sheriff Abdulai (“Sani Mohammed”) is “normal” depends heavily on what is meant by “normal” psychologically, legally, morally.

One social media user described his actions as beyond evil, adding that no sane person with conscience could ever do this, “He needs a full psychological evaluation and justice must be swift,” Sym Ple said.

Another noted that he’s probably lying and just cooked up the devouring part of the story. “Most of the parts he removed are usually demanded by spiritualist for fortification or money rituals for clients and he’s trying to cover up for further questioning,” The scentric Curations added.

Abubakari Tamupuri said, “He killed a lot of people also in Bole, more than 15 people…we are happy for his arrest but as it stands the trauma alone still haunts my people back home.”

From a psychological standpoint, his reported actions are far from “normal.” They indicate extreme pathological behavior. The removal, consumption, and mutilation of human organs are not within the realm of typical criminal or even “severe violent crime.”

These are features often associated with psychosis, severe mental disturbance, possibly dissociative states, or deeply rooted aberrant beliefs or derangements.

From the legal standpoint, unless proven otherwise through psychiatric assessment, he is still presumed to be “of sound mind” under Ghanaian law.

But his behavior might allow a legal defense of insanity or mental derangement if evidence supports that at the time of the acts he was unable to know the nature or wrongfulness of his acts.

Morally and socially, he is extremely abnormal: his acts are horrifying and violate deeply held taboos and laws. No civilized society regards cannibalism or mutilation of humans for consumption as acceptable.

The case should spark public dialogue and policy review about how mental health services, oversight, and care are provided, especially for people with mental illness, and how the legal system handles extremely violent offenders.
