Global K-pop icon group BTS has officially launched their Arirang World Tour with a sold-out performance at Goyang Stadium, marking the group’s first major headline tour since all seven members completed their mandatory military service.
BTS is a Korean pop (K-pop) group made up of seven members – Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook – who come from all over South Korea. They launched in 2013 and have since rocketed to global stardom.
Despite heavy rains, more than 40,000 fans gathered at the stadium to witness the opening night of the tour, signaling strong global demand for the group’s return. The concert sets the tone for what is being described as one of the most ambitious tours ever mounted by a Korean act.
The Arirang World Tour is expected to span between 82 and 85 shows across 34 countries, with projections suggesting it could attract over five million attendees worldwide. Industry analysts estimate the tour could generate up to 2 trillion Korean won (approximately $1.8 billion), placing it on a comparable scale to some of the highest-grossing global tours in recent years.
The Arirang era, introduced in 2026, represents a significant turning point for BTS as it marks both their official reunion and a renewed artistic direction. The group has described this phase as a reflection of a deeper connection to Korean identity and cultural expression.
Group leader RM explained that the project was designed to capture both personal growth and shared experiences among the members.
“We wanted this album to capture who we are and what has been on our minds… something I have forgotten too long, the moments that are far away together. I hope that it will be a kind of beauty”

The statement highlights the group’s intent to reconnect with their artistic roots while presenting a more reflective and mature sound.
Musical Direction and Global Impact
The accompanying 14-track album blends global pop and rock influences with traditional Korean musical elements, including percussion and choral arrangements. The opening track, “Body to Body,” prominently samples the traditional Korean folk song “Arirang,” reinforcing the album’s cultural theme.
Member Suga noted that the project aims to present a more authentic and evolved version of the group. “We worked hard to show a mature and evolved BTS,” he stated.
The album’s production reflects a deliberate effort to balance global appeal with cultural identity, positioning BTS within both international and traditional musical spaces.
Beyond its musical significance, the Arirang World Tour is expected to have a substantial economic impact. Analysts have pointed to increased travel interest in South Korea following the tour announcement, particularly in cities scheduled to host performances.
Search trends indicate a surge in travel-related queries for destinations such as Busan, which is set to host tour dates in June. The increase highlights the group’s continued influence not only in entertainment but also in tourism and global cultural exchange.
The scale of the tour has also drawn comparisons to major international acts, further underscoring BTS’s position as a leading force in the global music industry.

The tour marks BTS’s first large-scale group activity since completing South Korea’s mandatory military service requirement, a milestone that had temporarily paused their group promotions.
Their return has been widely anticipated by fans, known as ARMY, and the sold-out opening night reflects sustained global support for the group.
As the Arirang World Tour progresses, BTS is expected to continue engaging audiences across multiple continents, reinforcing their status as one of the most influential music acts of their generation.
