The Four Seasons series

Netflix’s hit comedy-drama The Four Seasons returns with Season 2 on May 28, 2026, as the beloved ensemble cast navigates grief, new beginnings, and evolving friendships across picturesque getaways.

The eight-episode season premieres in full today, building directly on the emotional foundation laid in the critically acclaimed first season.

Created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, the series reimagines Alan Alda’s 1981 film of the same name for a contemporary audience. It follows a tight-knit group of longtime friends-three couples whose quarterly vacation tradition becomes a lens for examining marriage, loyalty, midlife crises, and the passage of time.

The show blends sharp humor with heartfelt drama, earning praise for its relatable portrayal of complex relationships.

Season 1 premiered on May 1, 2025, and quickly resonated with viewers. The story centered on Kate (Tina Fey) and Jack (Will Forte), Nick (Steve Carell) and Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), and Danny (Colman Domingo) and Claude (Marco Calvani).

Their harmonious dynamic shattered during a lakeside anniversary getaway when Nick announced his intention to divorce Anne. The subsequent episodes tracked the ripple effects across four seasonal trips, introducing Erika Henningsen as Ginny, Nick’s much younger girlfriend, whose integration into the group stirred further tensions.

Critics and audiences lauded the series for its witty dialogue, strong ensemble chemistry, and nuanced exploration of middle-age realities. With an IMDb rating hovering around 7.2 and positive Rotten Tomatoes scores, The Four Seasons stood out as a comforting yet insightful dramedy in Netflix’s lineup.

Public Reaction

Many viewers appreciated how it balanced laughs with poignant moments about love, regret, and reinvention. Colman Domingo’s performance as Danny particularly drew acclaim for adding depth and emotional weight to the group’s interactions.

The season concluded with significant developments, including Nick’s tragic death, which left the surviving friends to grapple with loss. This heartbreaking turn set the stage for Season 2, shifting the narrative toward healing, adaptation, and new traditions.

Production moved swiftly after Season 1’s success, with Netflix renewing the show in May 2025 and delivering new episodes just one year later, a notably fast turnaround that aligned with real-time story elements like  Ginny’s pregnancy.

In Season 2, the core group-Kate, Jack, Anne, Danny, Claude, and Ginny continues their annual vacations while processing grief and welcoming new life. Destinations expand to include the stunning landscapes of Italy alongside familiar spots like the Jersey Shore and upstate New York.

With a baby (or possibly two) now in tow, the friends confront fresh challenges: parenting in unconventional circumstances, shifting romantic dynamics, and the enduring bonds that hold them together through hardship.

Tina Fey returns as the sharp-witted Kate, whose leadership and vulnerabilities anchor many storylines. Will Forte’s Jack brings comedic timing and quiet introspection, while Colman Domingo’s Danny explores new layers of resilience and direction.

Marco Calvani as Claude, Kerri Kenney-Silver as Anne, and Erika Henningsen as Ginny round out the ensemble, each character evolving in meaningful ways. Steve Carell’s Nick may appear in flashbacks, providing continuity and emotional resonance.

The creative team has emphasized authenticity in depicting midlife transitions. Fey, Fisher, and Wigfield not only write and produce but have taken on expanded roles, with Colman Domingo directing episodes this season.

This hands-on approach contributes to the series’ genuine feel, blending humor drawn from everyday absurdities with sincere reflections on mortality, legacy, and chosen family. Trailers hint at “some kissing” and plenty of heartfelt comedy as the characters travel, argue, reconcile, and grow.

Industry observers note the show’s Emmy potential, particularly in acting categories, following Season 1’s solid reception. Its appeal lies in universal themes: how friendships endure when life throws curveballs, and how traditions provide stability amid change.

In an era of flashy spectacles, The Four Seasons offers something rarer intimate storytelling elevated by stellar performances and scenic backdrops.

Fans have eagerly awaited this release since the renewal announcement. Social media buzz intensified with Netflix’s promotional post revealing the May 28 drop, featuring the cast against seasonal imagery and the tagline “Seasons change, relationships evolve, comedy ensues.”

The quick production cycle demonstrates confidence in the property’s popularity and the cast’s chemistry.

As viewers stream Season 2 today, many will find comfort in revisiting these characters during their own seasonal shifts. The series reminds audiences that life’s richest moments often occur not in grand gestures but in shared trips, difficult conversations, and the quiet decision to keep showing up for one another.
