Ghanaian renowned movie producer, Peter Sedufia has intimated that movie producers in Ghana don't make a conscious effort to market Ghanaian culture

Peter Sedufia, a Ghanaian movie producer.

Ghanaian filmmaker and producer, Peter Sedufia has debunked rumors of increment in the prices of cinema tickets.

Speaking in an interview, the ‘Keteke’ filmmaker noted that the prices of cinema tickets have rather been reduced drastically. According to him, before Covid, cinema tickets cost up to 50 Ghana cedis. However, it has been reduced to 30 Ghana cedis and 40 Ghana cedis for the week and weekend respectively.

“So, it has been reduced drastically and not increased like some people are saying”.

Peter further mentioned that because prices of tickets have been reduced, they will definitely be making losses. But he was quick to note that at the moment, they are not looking at making any profit but;rather regaining the interest of filmmakers and cinema lovers.

“This is not a selfish venture like some people are thinking. The clamor for the reopening of cinemas was a national call. Right now, it is not about profit-making at all. It is about regaining the interest in cinema culture of Ghanaians and filmmakers”.

Peter Sedufia uses his movie as a ‘sacrificial lamb’

Meanwhile, Peter Sedufia’s ‘Aloe Vera’ is making a comeback into the cinemas again following the reopening of the cinemas. It can be recalled that his movie was taken;down barely two weeks after it was premiered at the Silverbird Cinemas.

However, today, Tuesday 22nd June 2021, the movie, ‘Aloe Vera’ will be the;first movie that will be showing in all Silverbird cinemas across the country, just a week of its reopening. When asked how he got his movies showing early, he said:

Aloe Vera 568x424 1

“So, myself and some other filmmakers have been advocating;for the cinemas to be opened and when it opens, it needs to be operational. Right now, people are skeptical about cinemas working out like it used;to and they are questioning if they should risk it and take their movies there. Others too are waiting for a while to see how the reception will be.

“So, I felt that being one of the people who championed the course of;reopening of the cinemas, I need to step forward and use my film as the ‘sacrificial lamb’ to test the waters. If it works well, then people will have the confidence and then take their movies there. Because it is very important that we maintain and promote the cinema culture”.

Peter is confident about a positive feedback

When questioned if he will be disappointed if people don’t show up for his movie premiere, the filmmaker said “I don’t think I will be disappointed because it is only a test run to bring back the confidence in filmmakers and cinema lovers”.

He emphasized that he is hopeful that several people will be at the showing and he even fears that some might just break the Covid-19 protocols.

“I am very confident that it is going to do well and I think I am afraid that people will turn up so much they might break covid-19 protocols”.
