President John Dramani Mahama has pledged that his government will always ensure the Volta Region receives its fair share of national development, speaking at Juapong in the North Tongu District at the start of his ResettingGhana Tour of the region.
Addressing residents at the ceremony, the President described the occasion as another important milestone in the government’s commitment to building an economy that creates opportunities where people live and work, framing the visit as part of a broader vision rooted in strong local economies across the country.
The President acknowledged the significant role the Volta Region has played in Ghana’s development over the years, insisting that its people deserve to share fully in the progress the nation has achieved.
He recalled a promise he made during his campaign for the presidency, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring the region receives equitable treatment in national development efforts. “As I said when I was campaigning for President, I will always ensure that the Volta Region gets its fair share of national development,” he said.
Rejecting Political Favouritism in Development
President Mahama used the occasion to directly address perceptions that government support for the Volta Region might be tied to its history of political loyalty, insisting that his administration views the region as more than a source of electoral backing.

“Let me assure you that this government that I lead does not regard the Volta region merely as a region of loyal political support. We reject the notion that any part of Ghana should be taken for granted or left behind because of its electoral choices”.

He framed this commitment within the broader constitutional responsibilities of his office, describing government’s approach to the region as grounded in fairness and equity rather than political calculation.
“Our mandate given to us by the good people of Ghana is to govern the country for every Ghanaian, and our commitment to the Volta region is founded on fairness, on equity, our constitutional responsibility to ensure balanced national development across the whole of the country”.

A Broad Development Agenda Across Multiple Sectors
The President outlined a wide range of government interventions currently underway across the Volta Region, describing a deliberate strategy to invest in the infrastructure and institutions that directly affect residents’ quality of life.

According to President Mahama, this investment spans several critical sectors simultaneously, reflecting an integrated approach to regional development rather than isolated or piecemeal interventions.
“Across the region, the government is expanding health care infrastructure, we are strengthening educational institutions, we are improving roads and transport networks, we are modernising markets, we are supporting agriculture and agri-processing.
“We are also promoting trade and commerce, and we are creating new opportunities for investment and employment for the good people of Ghana”.

Healthcare and Education Infrastructure Take Priority
Among the areas highlighted, healthcare expansion and educational strengthening featured prominently in the President’s remarks, signalling continued government attention to two sectors that remain central to improving living standards across the region.
These investments align with broader national priorities that have shaped the government’s development agenda since taking office, extending the reach of essential services into communities that have historically faced gaps in access.
The emphasis on educational institutions also reflects government’s recognition of the Volta Region’s long-standing contribution to Ghana’s human capital development, with several notable academic institutions situated within the region continuing to play a significant role in the country’s education sector.

Roads, Markets and Agriculture Drive Economic Activity
Beyond social infrastructure, the President’s remarks pointed to sustained investment in economic infrastructure, particularly roads, transport networks and market modernisation. These interventions are designed to improve the movement of goods and people within the region while creating better conditions for commerce and trade to flourish.
Agriculture and agri-processing also featured as key areas of focus, reflecting the sector’s continued importance to the Volta Region’s economy.
By supporting these industries alongside broader trade and commerce initiatives, the government appears to be positioning the region as a hub for economic activity that extends beyond traditional agricultural output into value-added processing and market access.
The President’s remarks concluded with a broader commitment to creating new opportunities for investment and employment within the region, a theme that ties together the various infrastructure and institutional investments outlined earlier in his address.
This focus on employment generation reflects an understanding that infrastructure development alone cannot address the economic aspirations of residents without corresponding opportunities for meaningful work and enterprise growth.
A Tour Rooted in Direct Engagement
The Juapong ceremony marks the opening stop of a broader two-day tour through the Volta Region, during which the President is expected to inspect several ongoing projects and engage directly with citizens across multiple towns and districts.

This approach reflects a consistent pattern in government’s ResettingGhana initiative, combining public addresses with on-the-ground inspections to demonstrate tangible progress on development commitments.
As the tour continues through the region, residents and observers will be watching closely to see how the President’s pledges translate into concrete outcomes, particularly regarding the pace and visibility of the infrastructure projects highlighted during his remarks at Juapong.
