Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has suspended the gold trading licence of Dominic Bonsu Ventures with immediate effect following a regulatory determination that the entity breached fundamental operational protocols.

This firm regulatory action stems from the entity violating both the explicit terms and conditions of its licence as well as the overarching trading directives issued by GoldBod, which directly contravenes the statutory provisions set out under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

“All licensed buyers, aggregators, self-financing aggregators, and miners are hereby directed to cease forthwith all trading, commercial dealings, or other business engagements with Dominic Bonsu Ventures relating to gold transactions until further notice from the GoldBod. Any person or entity found facilitating, assisting, or engaging in gold transactions with Dominic Bonsu Ventures during the period of suspension shall be liable to the appropriate enforcement and regulatory measures under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).”

The state gold regulator confirmed that criminal proceedings are concurrently underway, with the High Court in Accra issuing a Bench Warrant for the immediate arrest of the proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures.

GoldBod is actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies to execute the warrant while imposing an absolute moratorium on the firm, effectively barring it from engaging in any form of gold purchase, sale, aggregation, transportation, or related financial transaction across the nation.

Regulatory Crackdown and Legal Implications

The Ghana Gold Board has established an unequivocal line in the sand regarding statutory non-compliance within the extractive sector.

By invoking the full force of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), the regulator demonstrates that holding a licence is an earned privilege tied strictly to statutory adherence rather than an unassailable right.

The immediate revocation of trading privileges, coupled with active criminal prosecution, sends a clear warning across the precious metals value chain.

Furthermore, GoldBod’s mandate extends beyond passive oversight to aggressive, targeted enforcement. Industry players who attempt to bypass established directives now face swift economic isolation and potential judicial sanctions.

The agency underscored its commitment to industry oversight by reiterating that it “remains committed to ensuring strict compliance with the laws, licence conditions, and trading directives governing Ghana’s gold trading sector” while promising to “continue to take decisive enforcement action against all persons and entities that undermine the integrity, transparency, and orderly operation of the industry.”

Deterrence Mechanism for Sector License Holders

This heavy-handed regulatory intervention serves as a powerful systemic deterrent to all existing and prospective gold trading licence holders.

In an industry historically prone to informal leakage, illegal arbitrage, and regulatory evasion, the publicly announced Bench Warrant against a business owner signals that corporate veils will not protect operators from personal liability.

Licensees must now recognise that failure to observe administrative guidelines carries immediate commercial shutdown and legal exposure.

The operational lockout enforced by GoldBod creates a high-stakes economic incentive for total compliance. By strictly prohibiting licensed buyers, aggregators, self-financing aggregators, and miners from maintaining commercial dealings with suspended entities, the regulator effectively cuts off supply chains and market access.

Market participants are thus forced to maintain rigorous internal compliance structures, knowing that any breach risks total operational exclusion and severe penalties under Act 1140.

Restoring Integrity in Ghana’s Extractive Economy

The crackdown on Dominic Bonsu Ventures represents a crucial step toward standardising gold trading operations across the country.

As Ghana works to streamline its small-scale and commercial gold trading frameworks, regulatory bodies are ensuring that transparency remains non-negotiable.

The statutory warning issued to potential accomplices underscores that third-party facilitators will be held equally accountable for helping suspended entities bypass regulatory suspensions.

Looking forward, this decisive action reassures compliant stakeholders, international buyers, and institutional investors that Ghana’s extractive governance framework possesses real oversight teeth.

By eliminating non-compliant actors from the market ecosystem, GoldBod safeguards the national treasury, promotes ethical sourcing, and guarantees that lawful operators can thrive within a fair, transparent, and well-regulated trading environment
