Ghanaian rapper Kweku Smoke has officially announced a free headline concert in his hometown of Berekum, marking a significant homecoming moment for the artist.

The event, titled “Revival – A Kweku Smoke Concert: Berekum Edition – The Home Coming,” is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2026, and is powered by MoMo from MTN.

In a post shared by the artist, whose real name is Paul Amankwah and who is also known as Big Shmoke, wrote: “ABOUT TIME! BEREKUM, WE’VE GOT A SHOW ON THE 5TH OF SEPTEMBER! @MoMoFromMTNGh SEE YOU SOON!” Accompanying the announcement was a promotional poster featuring the rapper in a black-and-white portrait against a bold yellow background, with the event details clearly displayed. Entry is free, positioning the show as an accessible celebration for local fans.

Berekum holds deep personal significance for Kweku Smoke. The rapper has frequently referenced his upbringing in the Bono Region town in his music and interviews. He has spoken about the hardships of his early years, including support from a local rice seller named Yaayaa, whose generous portions helped him through difficult times-a story he highlighted in the track “Holy Ghost” from his 2024 album Born in Hell.

Reconnecting with that community through a major concert carries emotional weight for both the artist and his supporters.

This Berekum edition continues the “Revival” concert series. Kweku Smoke first staged a successful headline show under the same banner on December 18, 2024, at GHUD Park near Accra Mall. That event featured guest appearances from other Ghanaian artists and showcased many of his popular songs, solidifying his status as one of the leading voices in Ghanaian hip-hop and trap.

Bringing the concept home underscores a full-circle narrative in his career.

Kweku Smoke rose to prominence through a series of projects that blend raw storytelling with energetic production. His discography includes Playman and He’s Just Different in 2023, the commercially successful Kweku Jesus and introspective Born in Hell in 2024, and Walk With Me in 2025. Tracks such as “Holy Ghost,” “Agyekum,” and collaborations like “Yedin” with Sarkodie have helped define his sound, which mixes Twi, English, and Pidgin while addressing themes of poverty, resilience, street life, and personal growth.

The rapper’s trajectory has not been without challenges. After early efforts and a period of relative quiet, he re-emerged with consistent releases that resonated strongly with young audiences. He has earned recognition at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, including wins for Best Rap Performance, Best Hip Hop Song, and Best Hip Hop/Hiplife Artist related to “Holy Ghost.”

Live performances, including shows at KNUST, university events, and an international headline concert in London earlier in 2026, have further expanded his reach.

The decision to make the Berekum show free aligns with a pattern of giving back that has marked parts of his public life. In previous instances, he has supported community causes, including covering medical costs for a student in need.

Hosting an open concert in the place that shaped him allows a broader cross-section of residents-many of whom may have followed his rise from local beginnings to experience the performance without financial barriers.

Public Reaction

Fans and industry observers have responded positively to the announcement. Social media posts quickly amplified the news, with supporters expressing excitement about the homecoming and speculation about the exact venue in Berekum.

Some replies referenced local landmarks and the anticipation of hearing street anthems performed live in the town where the artist’s journey began. The partnership with MoMo from MTN provides logistical and promotional support typical of major Ghanaian events seeking wide accessibility.

For Berekum and the surrounding area, the concert represents more than entertainment. It offers a high-profile cultural event that can draw attention to the town, potentially boosting local businesses and creating a shared moment of pride.

Ghanaian music has increasingly seen artists return to their roots for special performances, using such shows to reconnect with early supporters while introducing newer material to hometown crowds.

Kweku Smoke’s career continues to evolve. Recent activity includes performances at university events and ongoing promotion of his catalog. The September 5 date gives organizers several weeks to finalize production details, secure supporting acts if any, and manage crowd logistics for a free public event.

While specific venue information was not listed on the initial poster, community speculation has pointed toward established open spaces in Berekum capable of hosting large gatherings.

As the date approaches, attention will focus on how the artist balances the intimate significance of a homecoming with the production standards expected of a “Revival” branded show. Previous iterations emphasized strong stage presentation and high energy.

Given the free entry, organizers will likely emphasize safety, crowd control, and smooth operations to ensure a successful night.

The announcement arrives at a point when Kweku Smoke’s profile remains strong within Ghana’s competitive music scene. By choosing Berekum for this edition, he reinforces the connection between his personal history and his artistic output.

For many fans, the show will serve as both a celebration of his achievements and a reminder of the community that formed the backdrop to his earliest struggles and ambitions.

Details such as exact start times, any guest performers, and additional production elements are expected to be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the simple message of “see you soon” has already generated considerable anticipation among those who have followed the rapper’s path from Berekum to national and international stages. The free Revival homecoming stands as a notable moment in his ongoing career narrative.
