The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved 14 venues for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season following inspections and clearance by the Club Licensing Department, with the decision coming less than three weeks before the start of the new campaign.

The approval provides greater clarity for clubs preparing for the 30-week season, although several teams are still awaiting clearance for their proposed home grounds. The 18-team league is scheduled to begin between September 4 and 7, 2026, and run until the weekend of May 28–31, 2027.

The venues cleared by the GFA include the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale, Accra Sports Stadium, University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Duns Park in Bibiani, Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Sambreboi and TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.

Also receiving approval are Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem, AAK II Sports Arena, Tuba Astro Turf, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Golden City Park in Berekum, Nana Boamah Darko II Park in Kukurantumi and Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

Several Clubs Still Face Venue Uncertainty

The clearance of the venues does not mean every club entering the 2026/27 campaign has secured a permanent home for its league fixtures. Aduana FC’s Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa, Young Apostles’ Wenchi Sports Stadium, Swedru All Blacks’ proposed venue and Vision FC’s Nii Adjei Kraku II venue are among those not included in the approved list.

The situation leaves the affected clubs with limited time to address outstanding requirements, secure approval or nominate alternative venues before competitive action begins. For clubs, having a recognised home ground is more than an administrative requirement, as venue approval determines where they can stage their league matches.

The GFA’s regulations stipulate that a venue cannot be used for league matches unless it has been approved through the Club Licensing system. The Association also retains the authority to close a venue where the safety of clubs, officials or spectators cannot be guaranteed.

The approved list provides a geographical spread across several football regions, giving clubs access to established stadiums as well as smaller facilities and astro-turf venues. Major grounds such as Baba Yara Stadium, Accra Sports Stadium and Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium will once again be available for top-flight football.

The University of Ghana Sports Stadium and TnA Stadium set to host Medeama SC’s home games also feature prominently among the approved facilities, while venues such as Duns Park (Bibiani GoldStars), Golden City Park (Berekum Chelsea) and Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park (Bechem United) will provide home settings for clubs outside the country’s major metropolitan centres.

The GFA is expected to continue engaging clubs whose proposed venues remain uncleared as the season approaches. Any successful re-inspection or change of home venue could therefore alter the list before the opening round.

With the campaign scheduled to start in early September, the venue situation adds another layer to preparations for Ghana’s top-flight clubs. Teams must now ensure their facilities, squads and administrative requirements are all in order before the league gets underway.

The 2026/27 season will feature 18 clubs competing across the campaign, with most matches planned for weekends to support attendance and fan engagement. Midweek dates will primarily be used for outstanding fixtures, according to the GFA’s competition schedule.
