LeBron James made an impressive start to life with the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night against the Brooklyn Nets in a preseason encounter.
James recorded 10 points, five assists and four rebounds in his first appearance for his new franchise against the Nets.
The four-time NBA Most Valuable Player showed his ability to influence the game beyond scoring, helping Philadelphia establish a 58-56 halftime lead despite attempting just one field goal in his opening 18 minutes on the court.
James, 41, joined the 76ers this summer for his record-breaking 24th NBA season, marking a significant new chapter in a career that has already established him as the league’s all-time leading scorer.
His performance offered an early glimpse of how he could fit into Philadelphia’s new-look lineup, which combines his experience and playmaking ability with the offensive firepower of several established stars.
The veteran forward made his first appearance for the franchise after spending the previous eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, with the 76ers hoping his arrival will strengthen their ambitions for the upcoming campaign.
James Makes His Presence Felt
Although James took only one shot from the field in the first half, he remained effective by drawing fouls and creating opportunities for his teammates.

The former Lakers star did not attempt a field goal until he was fouled while driving towards the basket with 4:54 remaining in the first quarter. He subsequently converted all eight of his free throws, accounting for his 10 points.
His ability to get to the free-throw line, distribute the ball and contribute on the boards highlighted the different ways he could influence Philadelphia’s offence without dominating possession.
James’ opening minutes were not entirely smooth, however. The 76ers missed their first field-goal attempt after he sent a pass towards Joel Embiid’s feet. The centre managed to collect the ball but, off balance, missed a turnaround jumper.
Philadelphia quickly recovered from that early miscommunication, making its next seven shots as the starting unit began to find its rhythm.
James also demonstrated his playmaking instincts by finding open teammates and linking up with Embiid, who moved the ball on to fellow newcomer Jaylen Brown for a dunk.
New-Look Philadelphia Shows Its Potential
The preseason contest provided an opportunity for the 76ers to test a starting lineup featuring James, Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.
Maxey led the group with 14 points in the first half, while each of the other starters recorded at least six points as Philadelphia produced encouraging passages of attacking basketball.
The combination brings together James’ experience and vision, Embiid’s presence inside, Maxey’s scoring ability and Brown’s offensive versatility.

Edgecombe, meanwhile, adds another option to a lineup that could pose significant challenges for opposing defences if its new pieces develop an effective understanding.
Thursday’s performance was an early indication of the possibilities available to Philadelphia, although the team still has work to do before the regular season begins.
Head coach Nick Nurse had indicated that he expected to give his starters approximately half the game. Embiid, Brown and Edgecombe were still on the court at the beginning of the second half, while several key players had sat out Philadelphia’s preseason-opening victory over the New York Knicks on Monday.
The minutes distribution also reflected the importance of building familiarity among the team’s new additions while managing their workloads ahead of the competitive season.
Another Career Chapter
James’ arrival in Philadelphia follows a stint with the Lakers, where he continued to build on a career that has included multiple championships, individual honours and records.
He signed a two-year contract with the 76ers for the league minimum, joining a franchise that has assembled a formidable group of players around its established core.
The 76ers have two preseason games remaining, both against the Boston Celtics. The matchups carry additional significance because Boston traded Brown to Philadelphia shortly before James signed with the franchise.
Philadelphia will then turn its attention to the regular season, which begins for the team on October 20 against the New York Knicks.
For James, Thursday’s appearance was an important first step in adapting to a new environment at a stage of his career when his experience and ability to make teammates better could prove as valuable as his scoring.
His opening-half contribution suggested that he can remain influential without needing to take a large number of shots.
However, the preseason contest offered only an initial indication of how the revamped 76ers might perform when the games begin to count.
