Chelsea have received a major injury boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Bournemouth, with Moises Caicedo, Reece James, Cole Palmer, Marco Palestra and João Pedro all in contention to feature after returning to training following various degrees of injuries.
The Blues head coach Xabi Alonso confirmed that Caicedo is available for Saturday’s encounter at Stamford Bridge, while the other four players have also made encouraging progress in their recovery from fitness problems.
The return of the five players comes after a three-week international break, which provided Chelsea’s coaching and medical staff with additional time to work on their fitness ahead of the resumption of club football.
“Yes, he is ready to go. We have used the time with Moi [Caicedo] to get him back fit. He has been training well and he is okay to go.’’
Xabi Alonso, Chelsea head coach

Caicedo has made just one appearance for Chelsea this season, coming on as a substitute against Brighton & Hove Albion in August, before an injury disrupted his involvement in the opening weeks of the campaign.
However, the Ecuadorian midfielder has returned to full training and is now available for selection against Bournemouth, offering Alonso a significant boost as Chelsea seek to improve their position in the Premier League standings.
Caicedo’s Return Crucial as Palestra Eyes Debut
Caicedo’s return could prove important for Chelsea as they look to regain momentum following an inconsistent start to the Premier League season.

The midfielder’s availability provides Alonso with another option in the centre of the pitch, with the Blues hoping to benefit from his return as they prepare for a demanding period of fixtures.
Alonso revealed that the club had used the international break to help the 24-year-old regain full fitness after his limited involvement earlier in the campaign.
Meanwhile, Marcos Palestra is also in contention to make his competitive debut for the Blues against Bournemouth after recovering from an injury sustained during the final week of pre-season.
The defender has yet to feature in a competitive match for Chelsea since joining the club from Atalanta Bergamo in the summer, but his return to training has provided another positive development for Alonso.
With the 23-year-old now available for selection, the Chelsea manager will assess his readiness before deciding whether to include him in the matchday squad.
James, Palmer and Joao Pedro Make Progress
Chelsea have also received encouraging updates on Reece James, Cole Palmer and João Pedro, who all experienced fitness problems that affected their availability for their respective national teams.
James and Joao Pedro missed Chelsea’s most recent match against Brentford before the international break while Palmer struggled with his fitness during the same fixture.

The trio subsequently withdrew from international duty with England and Brazil respectively, allowing them to concentrate on their recovery ahead of Chelsea’s return to action.
According to Alonso, all three players have resumed training and could be involved against Bournemouth, although their individual workloads and recovery timelines differed.
“They have all been able to train, some of them earlier than others, and Marco Palestra as well. That was the plan. We knew that going into Brentford we had some players struggling, but they have trained well and are ready to go.”
Xabi Alonso, Chelsea Head Coach
Palmer’s progress will be particularly encouraging for Chelsea, given his importance to the team’s attacking play. The England international has been managing a fitness issue, prompting the club to take a cautious approach rather than risk aggravating the problem.
Alonso said the additional recovery time had helped the attacking midfielder improve his condition ahead of the Bournemouth encounter. “He has trained the last week and has felt better but we didn’t want to rush because we had the time,” Alonso said.
The Chelsea boss stressed that Palmer’s long-term fitness remains a priority as the club prepare for the next phase of the campaign. “What is most important for Cole is to be fully fit and that he enjoys his game and is feeling okay,” he added.
Alonso also acknowledged that Palmer had struggled during the Brentford match but expressed optimism about his condition following the international break.
Gittens Injury Provides Setback
Despite the positive developments surrounding the five players, Chelsea have suffered a setback with Jamie Gittens expected to miss the Bournemouth match and several subsequent fixtures.
The winger sustained an ankle injury while representing England Under-21s during the international break and is expected to remain sidelined for a few weeks.
Alonso confirmed that Gittens would not be available for Saturday’s match, making his injury the main disappointment for Chelsea following the extended break.
“He is not going to be fit for tomorrow; that is the bad news from the international break,” the Chelsea head coach revealed.
Chelsea Seek to Bounce Back to Winning Ways
The Blues will be looking to return to winning ways after their last league victory came against Brighton on August 30.
Chelsea are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League meetings with Bournemouth, recording four wins and five draws during that period. Their previous three encounters have all ended in draws.
With several key players nearing full fitness, Alonso will hope the improved availability of his squad can help Chelsea secure a positive result at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea enter the sixth round of Premier League fixtures in 10th place, eight points behind leaders Manchester City, while Bournemouth sit 17th after drawing three of their opening five matches and yet to record a win.
