Gov’t should reduce its appetite for borrowing- Citizens Share Budget Review Expectation

Some Ghanaians walking on the streets of Accra

Some citizens have suggested to the government to reduce its appetite for borrowing to fund economic activities and other developmental projects in the country.

As the Finance Minister presents the Mid-Year Budget review, Mr. Asare who interacted with the Vaultz News stated that government in its quest to fund projects must consider innovative ways of financing its expenditure.

He was also of the expectation that the minister will speak on the tax imposition and also reform the taxes that have indirectly burdened citizens, describing the taxes as one that is not growth enabling.

“The minister would have to speak on the taxes that were imposed and how the government has accumulated so much of revenue to help the economy to grow. So, essentially, looking at how things have turned out, we would be expecting the minister to adjust or reform the taxes because we have realized how they have not helped so many of the citizens with regards to those who have businesses.”

Gov’t must tell the nation’s current debt

Mr. Enoch Mensah, an Investor Relations expert interacting with The Vaultz News indicated that, Ghanaians would want to know the current debt the country has accumulated and how government intends to remedy the debt situation.

He further questioned the impact the debt is going to have on the working and non-working Ghanaian.

“The current debt that we have, what is the impact going to be for any normal Ghanaian or any Ghanaian who’s been working? How is it going to directly affect their income? Also, we want to know if the country has any special trading, they are doing currently to help the country to come over these debts that we have accumulated?”

Also sharing his expectations, Mr. Worlanyo stated that he is not expecting additional imposition of taxes. He also asked government to show how they were procuring vaccines for the nation.

“We expect the government to tell us the current state of the economy and what they are planning on doing to help businesses and then people who are still struggling to survive. They should also tell us how to get vaccines for the rest of the people since COVID-19 cases are still on the rise.”

Budget must consider employment

A citizen named Ernest said he was hoping for a good budget that will touch on improving the employment and the tax situation in the country.

“We are hoping for a good budget. A budget that will relieve Ghanaians from these taxes and bring development. Government must be able to establish more jobs so that we the aged will even get more to do and also create space for the youth. If the young ones are not working and graduates are sitting at home, how do you think somebody can survive?”

Ernest

Touching on the entertainment industry,;a citizen named Adwoa called for a larger part of the budget to be made available for the sector to enable them undertake more developmental projects to help boost the sector as well as the economy.
