Award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso has officially unveiled details of her latest project, the haunted comedy Agency For The Dead, which is set to open in Silverbird Cinemas from October 30, 2026.

In a recent social media post, the director shared a striking promotional poster featuring lead actresses Joselyn Dumas and Yvonne Okoro, urging fans to anticipate the film’s arrival. The announcement has generated early excitement within Ghana’s entertainment circles as the release date approaches just in time for the Halloween period.

Agency For The Dead is described as a haunted comedy that blends supernatural elements with humor. The official poster positions it as “Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s Haunted Comedy,” with the two central characters depicted in colorful attire holding a glowing skull while a sign reading “Open for Business” hangs nearby.

Silhouettes of ghostly figures appear in the background, hinting at the film’s mix of light-hearted comedy and otherworldly encounters. The production is credited to a team that includes Ken Attoh, Joselyn Dumas and Frimpong-Manso herself.

The cast is one of the project’s strongest draws. Joselyn Dumas and Yvonne Okoro, two of Ghana’s most recognizable and versatile actresses, take the lead roles. They are joined by a supporting ensemble that includes Omari Dwamena, George Quaye, Rhoda Ampene, David Dantoh, Mawuli Gavor and Anita Erskine.

This combination of established names and familiar industry faces is expected to broaden the film’s appeal among local audiences who have followed these performers across film and television over the years.

Shirley Frimpong-Manso remains one of the most consistent and influential voices in Ghanaian cinema. A graduate of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), she founded Sparrow Productions in 2003 and has built a body of work known for progressive storytelling and strong female characters.

Her films often explore relationships, social dynamics and contemporary African experiences with a polished visual style. Titles such as The Perfect Picture, Potato Potahto (which later streamed on Netflix) and Contract have earned her recognition, including a Best Director award at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Agency For The Dead marks a notable step into the comedy-horror space, expanding the range of genres she has tackled while staying true to her focus on compelling characters.

The choice of Silverbird Cinemas as the primary theatrical venue is significant. The cinema chain has become a key platform for Ghanaian films seeking wide domestic exposure, and a late-October release positions the movie to capture both general audiences and those looking for seasonal entertainment with a supernatural twist.

The timing also allows the film to benefit from the natural buzz surrounding Halloween without competing directly with major international releases that typically dominate the holiday season.

Public Reaction

Industry observers note that Ghanaian cinema continues to navigate challenges related to funding, distribution and consistent theatrical support. Filmmakers like Frimpong-Manso have repeatedly emphasized the need for greater local investment and audience support for home-grown content.

By delivering a genre film with recognizable stars and a clear theatrical window, Agency For The Dead has the potential to demonstrate the commercial viability of locally produced comedies with a twist. Early social media reactions to the announcement have been positive, with fans expressing anticipation for the pairing of Dumas and Okoro and curiosity about how the haunted comedy concept will unfold on screen.

The production team has kept plot details relatively limited so far, focusing instead on the star power and the distinctive visual tone of the poster. What is known suggests a story involving an unusual business dealing with the dead, allowing room for both humorous misunderstandings and supernatural tension.

This approach aligns with a broader trend in African cinema of blending local storytelling traditions with popular genre conventions to create accessible yet distinctive entertainment.

Promotional Increase

As the October 30 release date draws closer, promotional activity is expected to increase. Trailers, cast interviews and additional stills will likely provide deeper insight into the film’s tone and performances. For Frimpong-Manso, the project represents another chapter in a career dedicated to raising the standard of Ghanaian filmmaking and telling stories that reflect African perspectives with professionalism and creativity.

Audiences in Accra and other cities served by Silverbird Cinemas will soon have the opportunity to experience Agency For The Dead on the big screen. Whether it leans more heavily into comedy or maintains a balanced mix of scares and laughs, the film arrives with the pedigree of a respected director and a cast capable of delivering both star appeal and solid performances.

In a landscape where original Ghanaian theatrical releases remain relatively rare, the arrival of this haunted comedy is a welcome development for local film enthusiasts.

The announcement also serves as a reminder of the talent and ambition still present within Ghana’s film industry. With Frimpong-Manso at the helm and two of the country’s leading actresses in the primary roles, Agency For The Dead enters the final stretch before release with considerable goodwill and interest.

Fans of Ghanaian cinema now have a clear date to mark on their calendars as they wait to see what the agency that deals with the dead has in store.
