Kissi Agyebeng, the newly inducted Special Prosecutor, has pledged to suppress and repress corruption in the country.
According to him, he will do his utmost best to help rid the country of raging corruption.
Mr Agyebeng made this revelation at his swearing-in at the Jubilee House on Thursday, August 5, 2021.
“We are confronted with two pandemics. One is a health crisis and its outlook macabre. The other is not a health crisis, but it is also a pandemic, and that is corruption and corruption-related activities.
“The zeal with which your administration has approached the fight in respect of the health crisis, I also see and in respect of the other pandemic, which is, corruption as I come to this office, I pledge to the people of Ghana, I am going to work assiduously to suppress and repress corruption”.

No regret in appointing Martin Amidu
Speaking at the swearing-in also, President, Akufo-Addo, revealed that he has no regret in his appointment of former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu. He intimated that despite their fallouts, he has no problem with the country’s first Special Prosecutor.
Additionally, President Akufo-Addo maintained that he ensured the former prosecutor had the necessary resources to undertake his duties.
The President’s statement however counteracted Mr Amidu’s claim of inadequate resources and interferences in his work by the President.
“In spite of the unfortunate events that led to the departure of the first occupant of the office, I do not regret making that appointment. On my part as the president of the republic, I ensured that the office was adequately resourced to enable it to carry out its mandate.
“I am however consoled by the often-cited statement that there is no need of crying over spilled milk. So, when the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame on April 16, 2021, nominated Mr Kissi Agyebeng through Section 13, clause 3 of Article 959 for consideration as the second occupant of the office, I accepted the nomination because his qualifications are clear that he is eminently qualified to occupy the office.”

Furthermore, he explained that based on Kissi Agyebeng’s qualifications, “it is clear that he is eminently qualified to occupy the office”.
Commenting on the character of the newly inducted Special Prosecutor as highly qualified. Following this, he charged him to fight corruption independently.
“Kissi Agyebeng comes into office with the needed capacity, experience and values. I am very confident he will do a good job and we in the executive will respect the independence of his office and will provide the office with the needed support to enable him to work efficiently”.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor of Ghana was established after an act of the Parliament of Ghana passed the Office of Special Prosecutor Bill in 2017.
The office serves as an independent investigating and prosecution body to make inquiries into corruption, bribery, or other criminal cases at the national level, whether in the public or private sector.
