Ejura Protest Killing: Family demands justice

Murdered Ejura activist, Kaaka Macho

Editor of the Public Press, Samuel Frimpong, has intimated that the law should be allowed to take its course with regards to the outcome of the Ejura Committee findings.

According to him, the delay of the committee’s report is to allow the law take its course for the next line of action to be taken.

He also explained the case is in court and perhaps with murder cases, committal proceedings might have started.

“The family is demanding some level of expeditious justice but I also think that we should allow due process to take its course without rushing the system only to be hit by anything that will be unexpected.

“So please let us take our time let the law take its course. We are following the matter and understandably so, the family is worried. One of the spokespersons said one of the guys held in custody is a bread winner and has to be released”.

Setting up a committee, necessary

According to Mr. Frimpong, there was a point in setting up the committee and cannot be quantified as waste of time as being purported.

“Because we had the wife and a lot of the family members who even made us aware of what even goes on in Ejura. There may be some undertakings that the Police might have even ignored in the investigations because they are looking at murder. But the committee was looking at a larger picture.

“Most of the people who were invited by the committee wouldn’t have been invited by the Police. So, we can’t just rubbish the work of the committee”.

Samuel Frimpong

He further said he was of the expectation that the recommendations the report proposed will be taken seriously and used. He explained that, this is because government does not mostly use recommendations by committees it sets up.

“This will even boost confidence when a committee is set up to handle a case because I think there is some kind of fatigue when we hear the word committee in the country”.

Recommendation shouldn’t be a concern

Also speaking, Editor of the Informer newspaper,;Andy Kankam, was however of the view that the public should not be concerned with recommendations in the report by the Ejura tripartite committee but rather hope for justice to prevail.

According to Andy Kankam, the committee set up by the President was very important in this case as through it, some of the people testified to the fact that they wanted an end to that erroneous act done to Kaaka.

“So, the committee was important. But on the expeditious trial of the issue,;in cases like this you need to be very circumspect and not rush the course of the law.  So, when people are bashing them that they are being lazy,;that is not it”.

Samuel Frimpong

Mr. Kankam said the facts need to be gathered so that when the court trials begin it will be smooth.

“In as much as they want justice to be served,;the wheel of justice drives slowly but eventually we will get to the end of this. From the snippets of the recommendations that we have also read,;there has been some proposal to government to take care of the affected family.

“I am happy that we now know that the report has been submitted to the President by the Interior minister for the way forward. We should all be calm and patient”.
