Award-winning Ghanaian musician, Fameye, has warmed the hearts of Ghanaians as he donated some relief items to the victims of the Apiate disaster.
This suggests that Fameye has fulfilled a promise he made earlier that he was going to donate items to the victims. The musician, who was on vacation abroad, returned to Ghana a few days ago and visited the Apiate community to donate the relief items to the victims that survived the disaster that claimed several lives and destroyed properties.
In photos sighted on social media, Fameye was seen standing at the site of the unfortunate incident. He went to the place together with members of his team and they did not go empty-handed as they donated to help the victims. Fameye and his team sent items including bags of rice, water, soft drinks, and some toiletries.
It can be recalled that the Ghanaian singer was on vacation in Europe when the community in the Western Region was hit with the tragedy. Reports indicated that a truck conveying dynamites for a mining company was involved in an accident. The explosives detonated and brought down the community to debris leading to deaths and injuries.
Reacting to the news while abroad, the ‘Praise’ singer promised to return to Ghana to sympathize with the people and help them.
Fameye, reacting to the news at the time, said: “I saw the news, but I didn’t want to post anything about it because most at times when these issues happen everyone has what he or she will say. So, I had to wait and call people from the town to verify if it is true. Apiate is one area that I know, I have been there before”.
Several people have hailed Fameye for rendering a helping hand to the victims, while some others noted that they see it as his responsibility since the singer has been crowned a Chief of an area in the Western Region.
Fameye was enstooled as a Chief in Wasa in the Western Region of Ghana. The chief and elders of Wasa enstooled Fameye as ‘Wasa Nyankonton’ [Wasa Rainbow], on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
During the grand and joyous occasion, the chief announced that the enstoolment would acknowledge the musician for putting the community on the global map. Fameye, during the occasion, was seated before the Chief dressed in traditional regalia as a ceremonial sword rested on his lap.
The Chief, while enstooling Fameye said: “Because Fameye has exalted the name of Wasaman, Wasa and Bogoso. The name of my grandfather Nana Kwesi Sumbra II that I am giving to Fameye today amongst all musicians in Ghana is ‘Wasa Nyankonton'”.
Fameye also shared a few words with the gathering as he accepted his new role as a sub-divisional Chief.
“I would like to say that this honor that has been bestowed upon me by the chief and his elders, I will make sure that they do not regret it. I would do everything to uplift the name of the community. I will also render help within my means to the youth for development”.
