Ali Awudu, one of the Nima Riot suspects and leader of the Bombom Gang has been arrested by the Police Service.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspect who has been on the run since the recent Mamobi-Nima violence which occurred on January 18, 2022, was arrested at Aflao through an intelligence-led operation.

The Police indicated that his arrest suggests that the leaders of the two groups are both going to be taken through the due process of the law. Suspect Ibrahim Hussein alias Kumordzi, leader of the Kumordzi group was earlier arrested in a similar intelligence-led exercise.

So far, 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and the Police Service has indicated that it is still pursuing other members of the gang to bring them to face justice.

Prior to this, the Police in collaboration with the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) arrested suspect Farouk Dauda alias Omondi, aged 31 years, who was part of the rioters of the Mamobi-Nima clash.

Suspect Farouk Dauda was arrested at his hideout in a suburb of Accra  based on intelligence, after having been into hiding after the incident occurred.

During interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the said clash, where he was captured in a video footage, wielding a machete as he identified himself in the said video footage.

According to the Police, a search conducted on him led to the retrieval of a wrapped substance suspected to be Indian hemp and he’s currently in Police custody assisting with investigations.

The Police Administration further commended the Western North Regional Command, particularly the Enchi District Commander and his personnel for the commitment they continue to demonstrate in this regard.

“We are assuring the public that we will continue to work hard to protect them and their properties while making life uncomfortable for criminals. We, therefore, continue to seek your support and help in this venture.  We should always remember that Police-community partnership is the master key to crime-fighting and the maintenance of law and order.”
