Akufo-Addo not to Blame for Continuous Fuel Price Increase– Lucky Mensah

Lucky Mensah, has indicated that the continuous fuel price increase is not a problem of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but a global phenomenon due to factors beyond his government.

Ghanaian highlife musician, Lucky Mensah

Ghanaian veteran highlife singer, Lucky Mensah, has noted that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, should not be blamed for the continuous fuel price increase since it is a global phenomenon.

According to the highlife musician, there are some factors beyond government’s control which has led to the spike in fuel prices; therefore, the government shouldn’t be blamed. He alleged that some politicians who are seeking to make ‘mincemeat’ out of the situation know the truth, however, those politicians are rather leading citizens astray because of their political agenda. He further admitted that the situation is not peculiar to Ghana as other countries globally are facing similar challenges.

“Ghana is not the only country experiencing high fuel prices. If the prices of fuel go up on the international market, it will definitely affect Ghana, and all the politicians in Ghana are aware of this. Therefore, we shouldn’t be blaming the President as though he just wakes up one morning and decides to increase fuel prices. This is a global thing”.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Energy Security (IES) has projected a 6% increase in the price of fuel in the coming days.

Parts of the report from IES read: “Other factors include the 3.33% increase in the price of Brent crude, the 2.71% rise in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) price, the 3.58% increase in the price of petrol, and the 4.50% jump in diesel price; all on the international oil and fuel markets”.

It’s too early to conclude Akufo-Addo hasn’t performed – Lucky Mensah

Several citizens are bitterly complaining about the “poor state of the economy”. According to them, the Nana Akuffo-Addo led government is mismanaging the affairs of the country.

Lucky Mensah, who was of a different view, speaking about the performance of the President, noted that it is too early for Ghanaians to conclude that the President has not performed. He argued that the President still has about three years of his mandate in the second term and should only be judged if he is done with his second term which ends in 2024.

Lucky Mensah urged Ghanaians to exercise some patience and see what is in store for them in the next three years before drawing a general conclusion that the President has not performed.

“Nana Akufo-Addo has not finished his term; if you tell me he is not performing, that is how you see things; he is left with three years, let us allow him to finish his whole term to be able to come up with an assessment”.

It can be recalled that in 2016, Lucky Mensah switched camp from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The ‘Aduu Sumo Akwadu’ hitmaker threw his support behind then-candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo after he claimed he was disappointed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In the runup to the 2020 polls, Lucky Mensah disclosed that the NPP and President Akufo-Addo have his full support and subsequently went ahead to release a song titled ‘Nana Toaso’ in which he encouraged the President to continue with his good works.
