Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, has revealed that her commitment to the New Patrotic Party (NPP) remains intact despite contrary speculations.

She indicated that despite attempts by some party big shots to unseat her, she remains faithful to the party. Nana Ama Dokua debunked claims and some media speculations which suggest that because of the various infractions happening in Akuapem North Constituency Polling Station elections, she “will abandon my duties and responsibilities as MP and Deputy Minister”.

Contained in a facebook post, the NPP MP for Akuapem North Constituency, equally rubbished other assertions that revealed that at worse, she may potentially “run as or support an independent candidate”.

“While it is true that these unfortunate infractions that are alien to our constituency happened, my commitment to the party and government remain intact”.

Her comments followed some disgruntled members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region who went to the high court to restrain the party from holding an election in the constituency.

Reacting to this, the Deputy Trades Minister expressed that the party’s structures and other available avenues will be used to address the concerns of her constituents.

“That, I can assure you all. I, therefore, urge everyone to disregard any news suggesting that I will abandon my responsibilities because of the infractions”.

It will be recalled that on Friday, March 18, 2022, lawyers of some disgruntled members of NPP Akuapem North Constituency filed an application to stop the party from conducting elections to elect polling stations and constituency executives.

The angry party executives raised concern over the intimidations of members in various electoral areas by alleged national security operatives. The injunction, the members highlighted, has become necessary due to a series of infractions and irregularities that have been unearthed and marred the entire electoral process.

Meanwhile, the constituency Women’s Organizer of Akuapem North, Awo Boatemaa, has expressed worry over manipulation and intimidation in the ongoing polling station executives and Electoral Area Coordinators election.

She intimated that the constituency has had no peace since the elections began. Describing it as “unsavoury”, she indicated that when the election started, “armed men invaded the town” and constituents have not enjoyed any peace ever since.

Awo Boatemaa expressed that while at the Addo Nkwanta electoral area, the town was invaded by men clad in police and military uniforms carrying whips, guns and knives intimidating electorates to vote for Polling Station Executives who owe allegiance to Sammy Awuku.

“I hear Sammy Awuku wants to contest for the MP in Akuapem North. So, when you go to vote for the Polling Station Executives, they tell you to vote for the supporter of Sammy Awuku or Dokua. The election is not an NPP election. It is a Sammy Awuku and Ama Dokua election”.

The constituency’s women’s organizer revealed that on her way to cast her vote, she realized she was being followed by a black land cruiser “and that scared me a lot”. She further noted that the constituency chair, Frank Appiah, equally suffered intimidation and was forcefully dragged to the polling station to vote.

Following this, she advised Sammy Awuku and Ama Dokua to use the right channels and processes to get what they aspire for.
