Assistant Commissioner of Police and Kaneshie Divisional Police Commander, ACP Edward Faakye Kumi, has assured the Service will maintain law and order during the conduct of the New Patriotic Party’s elections at the Okaikoi South Constituency.

ACP Faakye Kumi revealed that despite threats from delegates to disrupt the conduct of elections today, April 28, 2022, his team is ready to ensure sanity prevails during the election process.

“We are here to maintain law and order. Therefore, if anybody thinks he is too big, we are here. We will see who is big and at the end of the day who will be able to maintain law and order so far as this election is concerned.”

ACP Edward Faakye Kumi

The Kaneshie Divisional Commander indicated that several concerns have been raised by some of the delegates over claims of irregularities. ACP Faakye Kumi explained that despite the grievances the delegates may harbour, they are not expected to be “physical or obstruct” anybody who is coming in to cast his or her vote. This, he emphasized, is because the police is determined to foil any chaotic scene.

“They are raising issues of the elections coming on, on Saturday and not today and that some people’s names have been removed from the register. They also went on to say that they’ve taken the matter to court and it’s under injunction. What I was trying to tell them is that, if they have injunction and the party goes ahead to conduct the election, they have every right to go and cite the party for contempt.”

ACP Faakye iterated that the elections in Okaikoi South constituency will continue unabated despite initial confusion and disagreement recorded at the constituency.

“What we have from the EC and the party is that the election is coming on. So, we owe it a duty to maintain law and order for the election to go smoothly… If some people’s names have been removed from the register as they allege, that is also a basis for them to go to court and channel their grievances.”
