The Deputy Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Nixon Biney, has stated that he will be leading a picket at the office of the Vice President, Mr Mahamadu Bawumia, due to the current economic crises in the country.
He indicated that the high cost of living, upsurge in price of goods and services, high inflation and increament in the prices of fuel and fares have created dire challenges for consumers and entreprenuers as many businesses risk shutting down if there is no intervention by the government soon.
Speaking in a media interview today October 24, he indicated that the rate at which the prices of items keep going up is unexpected.
“I sent a letter to the Ghana Police regional commmand and I have a meeting with them concerning the picketing. Things are getting out of hand, the prices of food items keep increasing rapidly and the matter of the cedi is getting worse”

He explained that his mission is to call the attention of the Vice President, Dr Bawumia to the extreme economic hardships Ghanaians are going through and demand solutions for the crises.
He mentioned that the head of the economic management team, Dr Bawumia seems to have gone missing since the cedis began a steep fall over the week, experiencing its worst depreciation in Ghana’s history as some economists have suggested.
letter to the Accra Regional Police
In a notice to the Accra Regional Police, it indicated that the exercise will be peaceful.
” In compliance with the public order act (491) 1994, I wish t notify your office of a Planned Peaceful Picketing at the office of the Vice President of Ghana, on Friday, 28th October 2022.
“This peaceful demonstration is intended to call the attention of the Vice President of Ghana to the extreme economic hardships Ghanaians are going through and demand solution for same.”

“As required by the law, your protection will be welcomed to ensure that lives and properties are protected.”
This follows the several calls on the government by both individuals and institutions to come out with measures which will help solve the situation.
Several efforts by the government to solve the ailing economy have yielded no positive results.
Meanwhile, Government of Ghana has sought economic support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
