Popular Ghanaian gospel musician, Evangelist Diana Asamoah has stated that the governing New Partroitic Party (NPP) cannot be blamed for the country’s economic hardship, as it fulfils God’s Word.

Speaking in an interview, the musician who doubles as a staunch supporter of the NPP, linked the current economic crisis in Ghana to the word of God written in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 of the holy book.

According to her, the Akuffo Addo led government cannot be totally blamed for Ghana’s economic woes that have resulted in the highest inflation in the history of the country. She emphasized that, “no one can can make Ghana or the world a better place in the end time.

“The current hardship in Ghana is bodly written in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. It tell us that we will be faced with hard times and humans and humans will go after riches. The world will be filled with those who lack love.”

According to the ‘Pentecost Ogya’ hitmaker, Ghanaians must turn their attention to the bible in every situation of life because the word of God will have to be fulfilled.

Evangelist Diana Asamoah further disclosed that she hasn’t regretted compaigning for the party or its Presidential leader, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo, in the past general elections.

Ghana’s Economic Woes

Ghana is grappling with runaway inflation as prices of basic commodities spiral. Government finances are also at their weakest point in years. The Country’s local currency, the cedi, is now the World’s worse performer against the US dollar which is a signal of the depth of the country’s economic crisis.

Ghana’s economic woes continue as the country seeks International Monetary Fund (IMF) support for the 17th time. The bailout was necessary after the new electronic transaction levy (e-levy), a 1.5% tax on all electronic transfers above GHS100, failed to yield the expected results.

The idea is that, it would enable the country to meet its payments to the rest of the world and restore the health of government finances. However, Ghana is hoping to receive as much as US$3 billion.

The economy has suffered greatly since the beginning of the year 2022, plunging the country into a full-blown economic recession. Inflation rose from 13.9% in January to 40.4 % in October and some analysts believe the actual level is more than twice the official rate , possibly as high as 98%. Petrol and diesel prices have jumped by 88.6% and 128.6% respectively. Most public transport fares have increased by over 100% since January.

While the government blames the economic crisis on COVID-19 and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the political opposition and some civil society organisations believe state mismanagement is largely responsible.
