TotalEnergies has officially inaugurated its largest solar power plant cluster in Europe; a major renewable energy milestone located near Sevilla in Spain.

Comprising five interconnected solar projects, the facility boasts a combined installed capacity of 263 megawatts (MW), capable of generating 515 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy annually—enough to power over 150,000 Spanish households.

“We warmly thank the Spanish authorities at both the regional and national levels for supporting this solar project that is contributing to Spain’s ambition of 80% renewables in its mix by 2030.”

Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies

The project marks a significant step in Spain’s ambitious plan to derive 80% of its energy mix from renewable sources by 2030. It also strengthens TotalEnergies’ footprint in Europe’s energy transition as the company pursues global decarbonization and integrated power strategies.

Jouny added that the solar plant reflects the company’s growing commitment to delivering clean, firm power by combining renewables with flexible gas-fired generation.

“With our 1,700 employees in Spain, we are building a competitive Integrated Power portfolio.

“We are proud to be the 4th largest provider of electricity, gas, and related services in Spain, where we serve more than 2 million residential and professional customers.”

Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies

The solar plant cluster, declared of strategic interest by the Junta de Andalucía, features approximately 400,000 bifacial solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers. These panels enhance efficiency by capturing sunlight on both sides, significantly increasing energy output.

Construction and installation of the facility have also provided a meaningful boost to the local economy. According to TotalEnergies, the project involved 14 companies, over half of which are based in Sevilla, and created 800 direct and indirect jobs throughout its development.

The solar cluster is expected to eliminate 245,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually contributing to national and EU-wide decarbonization goals.

TotalEnergies’ Renewable Growth Trajectory

As of March 2025, TotalEnergies had achieved 28 gigawatts (GW) of installed gross renewable electricity capacity.

The company aims to increase this figure to 35 GW by the end of 2025 and targets 100 terawatt-hours (TWh) of net electricity production by 2030.

This growth strategy is anchored in TotalEnergies’ vision of becoming a major player in global clean energy markets, not just through oil and gas but by expanding its low-carbon and zero-emissions portfolio.

“Our goal is not only to reduce emissions but to enable entire economies to make the transition from fossil-based systems to renewable and reliable energy.”

Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies

Most of the electricity generated from the new solar fields will be distributed through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), providing predictable revenue for TotalEnergies and stable energy pricing for customers. The remainder will be sold on Spain’s wholesale electricity market.

This dual-channel approach reflects the company’s broader Integrated Power model, which balances renewables with flexible gas plants to deliver stable, low-carbon electricity.

Spain is among Europe’s leading markets for solar energy, thanks to its favorable climate, supportive policy environment, and access to cutting-edge solar technology.

The government’s push to reach 80% renewables in its energy mix by 2030 aligns well with investments like TotalEnergies’, further cementing the country’s status as a green energy leader.

The Sevilla cluster represents one of the most prominent examples of large-scale private sector investment in renewable energy in Spain and sets a benchmark for similar developments across the continent.

As demand for clean energy continues to grow globally, TotalEnergies’ Sevilla cluster demonstrates how integrated infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and strategic investment can drive both sustainability and economic development.

With its scalable model and long-term vision, the company is positioned to play a pivotal role in delivering Europe’s green energy future—one solar panel at a time.
