Former President and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says, when elected into power come December 7th, his government will make sure Ghana works again for everybody and not just some people.

He made this statement, as he officially launched the NDC’s campaign in Sehwi Wiawso in the Western North region today, 7th October 2020.

“My brothers and sisters, we need to make Ghanaians hope again, we need to make them feel they are listened to and taken care of, we need to make Ghana work for everybody and not just a few people.

“This is why our manifesto, we call it ‘The People’s Manifesto’. We pledge to create one million new decent jobs over the next four years. We will do it and I guarantee you. “

Speaking at the launch, he said his party is looking to transition the nation from the post-industrial world to the world of smart technology and from a production-based economy to a knowledge based one.

“In simple words the advanced world is moving in one direction whiles we are still moving in the direction the world moved 20 or 30 years ago. If we keep moving in this direction we will become less and less competitive on the global market and this will condemn us to perpetual stagnation and global backwardness. This is because our main vulnerability as a nation is the weak social and economic infrastructure.”

He further intimated that, it is his party’s intention to turn the Ghanaian economy, into a 24-hour economy with factories and businesses, working 24 hours a day, everyday especially, in the production of high earned goods not only for exports but also for the local markets.

He explained further that, the additional shifts this will create, will bring in a significant number of new jobs and since the production of high earned goods is what his government will focus on, there will be decent jobs with decent salaries which will allow people to live a dignified life.

He further went on to say that, his government will develop the country’s digital economy at a highly accelerated phase, “one that has never been witnessed here in Ghana before” adding that, this is why on ‘The People’s Manifesto’, the NDC pledged to provide affordable internet access to all Ghanaians.

“We will also train one million coders who will also become the backbone of our digital economy. With this plan, the digital economy will flourish and a significant number of new and decent jobs will be created.”

John Mahama also announced that, the NDC has decided that, tertiary students will pay 50% only of their tuition fees for the 2020/2021 academic year. He said they call it the “Kyempe Policy” because, parents are now recovering from the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic.

He added that his government “Will touch every soul, heal every wound and we will restore dignity and truth to Ghana.”
