Ghanaian highlife crooner, Akwaboah has recounted how a glamourous chance to work with American singer, Alicia Keys, was however taken away from him by a fellow Ghanaian.
This revelation comes after the singer was asked about his rumored songwriting for the American superstar, Alicia Keys.
Recounting the situation, he disclosed that someone from the management team of Alicia Keys reached out to him upon a recommendation to write a song for her which he did so well. However, after he had submitted the song, things didn’t come to fruition as he wished because a fellow Ghanaian had sabotaged him.
He revealed that the person in question wrote to the management team of Alicia Keys and mentioned the fact that, he was a budding artist whose followership was not huge, therefore they wouldn’t make any gains when they work with him.
“It was true I wrote for Alicia Keys. However, something bad happened. Someone sabotaged me. You know it was a feature and so, it was like the management team of Alicia Keys worked through several emails before they could reach me. So, the guy in charge of the work had already reached out to three writers already in Ghana. However, they didn’t like their work very much.
“So, the guy contacted me, I wrote the song, and they loved what I did. Then someone from Ghana wrote to them and told them that, I am not a huge artist in Ghana and that if they want those who have made names, I am not on that list. You know how feature also works in showbiz, it is a two-way thing, they tap into my fanbase and I will tap into theirs. So, they made their checks and realized that my following then wasn’t so huge. Then they started giving me excuses about the song and all that and later it was scraped off”.
When asked how he felt after he realized that it was a Ghanaian who had brought him down, he said:
“I think for me everything is about timing. You know everything that God does is about timing. Even though it didn’t happen that time, definitely it will happen some other. But obviously, I have my human side and so, I’ll think about it for some time. But I advised myself not to get too emotional about it and move on because bigger deals will definitely come my way”.
Akwaboah further noted that he soon came to understand how some Ghanaians could rise to the top and bring others down. According to him, that was a priceless lesson he learned very early in his career.
It can be recalled that in 2018, Akwaboah made headlines when it was rumored that he has been writing for Alicia Keys. Some reports even claimed that he charged Alicia up to 70,000 to 100,000 Ghana cedis.
However, Akwaboah then never confirmed whether it was indeed true or false as he was always giving ambiguous answers when he was asked about it. During an earlier interview in 2018 when he was asked about it, he only noted that he has set a “trap” and that Ghanaians will soon know when he catches the prey.
