Stevie Wonder, the renowned American singer-songwriter, has taken the Oath of Allegiance and received his Certificate of Citizenship to become a Ghanaian citizen.
The ceremony took place on Monday, May 13, at the Jubilee House, Ghana’s seat of government, signifying Stevie Wonder’s official integration into Ghanaian society.
Mr. Wonder who is in Ghana with his family will hold both his American citizen and that of Ghana.
At the ceremony, the renowned singer expressed delight at the honor done to him.
“I guess it’s just the lineage I felt Ghana, I felt my civilization was there and I was there where it began. So, I thank all of you so very much. I always say this is the beginning, [the best part of the rest of my life got to do God’s promised].”

The US music legend, Stevie Wonder arrived in Ghana following a decision in 2021 to permanently relocate to the West African country.
He was captured at the Kotoka International Airport, mobbed by fans and industry players on Monday morning.
It appears Stevie has finally had his wish fulfilled after he declared in February 2021, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey explaining his decision to move to Ghana, citing the political turmoil in the United States.
In a post on social media, Kow Essuman, the legal counsel to President Akuffo-Addo, congratulated the celebrated musician for embracing Ghanaian citizenship.
“Stevie Wonder is officially Ghanaian. He has just taken the Oath of Allegiance and received the Certificate of Citizenship by Registration at Jubilee House. Congratulations, Sir and welcome to Ghana.”

Coincidentally, Stevie Wonder is also celebrating his 74th birthday today, having been born on Saturday, May 13, 1950.

His influence spans various music genres, including R&B, pop, soul, gospel, funk, and jazz, making him a true pioneer in the music industry.
The legendary musician, a Michigan native, learned to play piano, drums, and harmonica by age 9 and signed to Motown in 1961. He has won 25 Grammy Awards, an honorary award, and has been nominated 74 times.

Stevie Wonder Drums On His Visit To Ghana
The legendary American singer and songwriter arrived in Ghana to a grand welcome at the Kotoka International Airport.
A local cultural troupe greeted him with a cultural performance, skillfully playing the drums while some of them danced.
The musician was impressed by the sound of the Kpanlogo drums, a traditional Ghanaian barrel drum often used in music and dance performances.
The music maestro happily joined the drummers, beating the musical instrument in excitement.
