Davido Cries Out For Not Sleeping Well

Nigerian artists, Davido and the late Mohbad

Nigerian singer, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has revealed that he has been having difficulty sleeping following the controversial death of Mohbad.

According to the “Unavailable” singer, via his Instagram story on Tuesday, the spirit of the late Mohbad is so compelling that he’s unable to sleep at night. “Mohbad your spirit strong ooo… sleep come hard me”, he wrote.

In another separate post, Davido expressed his intention to return to the country for the candlelight procession scheduled to be held for the deceased singer. This is coming after a post on the singer’s official Instagram page announced that a candlelight procession and tribute concert will take place in Lekki, Lagos, on Thursday, September 21.

“We appreciate the outpouring of love from fans across the world to the ones who’ve organized events in their communities as a way to honor and pay respect to our shining light we say thank you. Join us for Mohbad’s Candlelight Procession and Tribute Concert”, the post read.

The 27-year-old Mohbad died in a controversial manner last Tuesday. It can be recalled that Naira Marley and Mohbad had a misunderstanding in 2020 over royalties and a change of Mohbad’s management, which led to Mohbad terminating his contract with Marlian Music over alleged assault from the record label.

The deceased singer was nominated for Best Street Hip-Hop Artiste at the recently concluded 16th Headies Awards for his song ‘Peace’. While alive, reports were that the young singer Mohbad lived in constant fear and was never at peace. It seems even in death, chaos still trails him.

Davido’s fourth studio album “Timeless” has been named “Album of the Year” at the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMAs) 2023. The project which houses 17 tracks was released in March through Davido Music Worldwide, Columbia Records, and Sony Music Entertainment.

O.B.O ‘Timeless’ beat Asake’s ‘Work of Art’, Stonebowoy’s ‘5th Dimension’, Omah Lay’s ‘Boy Alone Deluxe’, Amaarae’s ‘Fountain Baby’, amongst others to clinch the ‘Album of the Year’. The event, the 10th edition of AFRIMMA, was held on Sunday night at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas.

This award is Davido’s first for his cutting-edge body of work. ‘Timeless’ swiftly became the top-charting African album on iTunes shortly after its release and also reached number two on the US Apple Music Albums chart.

The African Muzik Magazine Awards (commonly abbreviated as AFRIMMAS) is an annual African music awards ceremony aimed to reward and celebrate musical works, talents, and creativity around the African continent and accommodates all musical genres including Afrobeats, Afro-Trap, Highlife, Assiko, Bongo, Genge, Kwaito, Soukous, Coupé décalé and Lingala.

The event was founded by businessman Anderson Obiagwu and is presented by Big A Entertainment. The first awards ceremony took place in July 2014 at the Eisemann Center in Richardson, Texas.

Some days ago, Davido paid a heartfelt tribute to the late singer Mohbad during his ‘Timeless’ show in London. Mohbad’s unexpected passing at the tender age of 27 has left a nation in mourning, and Davido’s tribute added an impressive note to the ongoing remembrance of the talented artist.

Davido displayed his compassion by sending a generous condolence gift of 2 million Naira to the grieving family during his burial.

Before commencing his much-anticipated concert, Davido took a moment to address his eager fans, acknowledging the challenges artists face in their personal lives. He emphasized that, like anyone else, artists also go through their share of hardships.

It was in this heartfelt atmosphere that Davido paid his tribute to Mohbad. With a heavy heart, Davido gave a touching shout-out to the late singer, expressing his belief that Mohbad was watching over them from heaven.

The emotional resonance of this moment was palpable, with fans in attendance and those watching online sharing their condolences and appreciation for Davido’s gesture.
