Multi-award-winning artist and Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hinted at the possibility of venturing into politics in the future.
The Grammy Award nominee made this revelation during his recent appearance at a summit in Abuja.
During a panel session, Davido, whose influence in Nigerian music and entertainment continues to grow globally, briefly touched on the idea of transitioning from entertainment to politics.
His comments drew attention, especially given his family background in politics.
Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, currently serves as the Governor of Osun State, having been elected in 2022 after a fierce gubernatorial race.
While addressing the topic, Davido did not completely dismiss the possibility of a political career, saying, “Let me be singing for now, I think for now I am good at my job (music), for now, let me stick to what I’m doing.”
His response left the door open for speculation about his future ambitions, sparking conversations among fans and political observers alike about what role he could eventually play in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“You know in Nigeria politics is complicated. It’s sweet oh but it’s complicated. It’s our country and we can’t leave here, we can hope and pray that things get better with time.
“I have hope. I always tell people that the younger generation is getting older and wiser, I’m also excited about the younger generation getting involved in governance over time.”

Davido Drops New Hit “Awuke”
Released on October 31, 2024, ‘Awuke’ featuring Jamaican singer, YG Marley, comes after weeks of anticipation as Davido kicks off a new era after his successful ‘Timeless’ era.
‘Awuke’ was co-written by emerging music star, Moonlight Afriqa and co-produced by Mikakabeatz and Marvey Muzique.
The log drum-punctuated record carries familiar Amapiano fusion, while Davido and YG Marley sing about their stunning love interests in quintessential pop fashion.
The song is accompanied by a music video shot in Lagos by ace cinematographer Daps.
‘Awuke’ is set to kick off a new era for Davido, who continues to enjoy commercial success thanks to his record-breaking fourth album, ‘Timeless,’ which earned him three Grammy nominations.
His collaboration with YG Marley is expected to appear on his upcoming fifth album expected to be released in 2024.
Recently, Omah Lay revealed he has a song with Davido billed for release soon. Fans will be hoping that this surprise collaboration will be one of the precursors to Davido’s upcoming project.
‘Awuke’ increases the anticipation for Davido’s next album which he described as his best yet while playing host to American content creator, Kai Cenat earlier in the year.
In other news, the Afrobeat singer praised the current cultural renaissance in Africa, citing its positive impact on the continent’s image.
Davido highlighted the global success of Afrobeat, African cuisine, and culture.
He noted that this shift has earned respect for Africans in the Western world, beyond music.
“This summer, I was in Europe a lot. I had like two gigs but I was on vacation. And I saw that the landscape has changed. Two years ago, when I was in Europe, they were playing Afrobeats for straight one hour.”

Davido revealed how Americans love to use African sounds in music instead of theirs during collaborations.
“I mean, people love Afrobeats. Everybody likes that sound now, even in America. Even when we want to collaborate with American artists and we want to do their own sound, they are like, no, no, let’s do Afrobeats.”

The singer further noted that the narrative about Africans has changed. “The respect is there. Not only in music but in fashion, food,” he added.
