Genevieve Abrefa Yeboah, popularly known as Oheneni Adazoa, a well-known radio presenter with Kumasi-based Sompa FM, has recently shared her reason for not completing technical school education.

She revealed that she dropped out of school because of her strong desire to travel abroad, influenced by her parents, who had already done so.

“I went to Oda Anglican JHS and then continued to the St. Francis Technical School at Oda, but I didn’t complete. I quit school at Form 2 because I was bent on travelling outside of the country.

“At the time, as a young girl, I was so obsessed with wanting to travel abroad; I was always having fun with my friends, and so I couldn’t focus on my studies, so I quit school. After I stopped, I went to learn how to braid for one year in readiness to travel abroad.”

With the help of a middleman, she secured a visa, which her mother paid for, and in 2001, she moved to London.

“I went to London, where I landed a cleaning job while perching with a friend. After some time, I left my friend’s house, and I rented a place for myself.”

However, due to the challenges of living in London without legal documents, she decided to return to Ghana in 2005.

The renowned Kumasi-based Sompa FM presenter further revealed why she decided to move back to Ghana from London.

She explained that she decided to return to Ghana due to the stress of living in London without proper legal documents.

“It was in 2005. The stress was too much. Living abroad without proper documents is tough. If you use someone else’s papers to get a job, they might take them back later. The frustration and other challenges made me decide to return. Even my husband wanted me to come back.”

Oheneni Adazoa also opened up about the hardship she faced leaving UK for Ghana.

According to her, she became a laughing stock and a subject of name calling during the early days.

“I left UK to Ghana to marry a man I had never met. After a year of being in Ghana we opened a shop where we sold hair and later added cosmetics. People used to call me names. They called my shop the woman who left Abroad to come and marry in Techiman but I was not deterred. It was a trying moment in my life but I held on to my faith.”

“Times were trying but I held on. It got to a point I had only one brazzier,” she added.

Sharing Demanding Period of Her Life

The popular radio presenter recently opened up about a challenging period in her life.

After returning from London to start a business in Techiman with her husband, her wig and cosmetic business began to struggle, leading to financial hardship.

“My business dipped and things became tough for me, so my husband decided that I should go and learn interior decoration so that we can make some money from that. While I was learning interior decoration, I also started attending a media school.

“It is a process; God intentionally brought me down to Ghana for this particular radio job I am doing. Things have been very tough for me in the past. I was in so much hardship that it got to a time I had only one bra to wear.”

Someone like her who had stayed abroad and was able to live a good life was struggling to make ends meet, but in all these, she realized it was a process that God was taking her through to prepare her for what she is now.

“It got to a time when someone was describing me; all they could say was, Go to the woman who, because of marriage, had come to Ghana from London and is now struggling. People sometimes said this to my hearing, and some even ask, Is it because of this shop that is why she left abroad to come and stay in Ghana?”

Oheneni Adazoa candidly shared her experience of being married for two decades without having children.

Despite the challenges, she remains hopeful about the possibility of becoming a mother in the future.

She also expressed her deep personal struggles, saying, “I want people to know that it’s not my choice to be childless. My mother, who was my only family, passed away last year, and I believe her health declined partly due to the stress and worry over my situation.”

Adazoa revealed that, while her husband has always been supportive and has never complained, the pressure to have a child mostly comes from outside people.

One painful moment she shared that she will never forget, was when a church member made an insensitive comment. After her singing ministration, this person told a new visitor that “all she knows is singing but not giving birth” .

This hurtful remark led the visitor to leave the church, saying she didn’t want to come back.
