Ras Kuuku Eyes Winning TGMA Gospel Song Award

Ras Kuuku

Reggae and dancehall artist, Ras Kuuku, has revealed that he is looking forward to winning the Gospel Song of the Year award in this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Ras Kuuku stated that apart from the reggae/dancehall and the male vocalist categories, he is also interested in the gospel song slot. “Yeah, [I would like to be nominated in] the gospel song of the year [category],” Ras Kuuku stated.

Even though he is not a gospel musician, he believes he is eligible for the award. He is confident that his music can compete in any genre.

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards limits the gospel song categories to only gospel artists.

The ‘Best Gospel Song’ is defined by the Telecel Ghana Music Awards as a song adjudged by the Academy.

“The song adjudged by the Academy, Board, and the General Public as the most popular Christian song, commercially released in the year under review. The song must have generated the most public excitement and enjoyed a lot of patronage from the general public. Only songs performed by Gospel artists are eligible for this category.”

TGMA

The reggae/dancehall artist has gospel songs such as ‘Me Mpaebo’, and ‘Gyedie’ ft. MOGMusic and his recent ‘Tumi’ which features Broda Sammy.

However, he expressed doubt about Nacee’s gospel artist status.

Ras Kuuku expressed his disagreement with the TGMA’s Board’s decision to limit the gospel categories to only gospel musicians.

Responding to why people like him will not be allowed to compete in the gospel categories, he questioned if Nacee is a gospel musician. “Nacee is not a gospel musician, Nacee is a producer,” he noted.

When DJ Slim pointed out that Nacee has produced and performed many gospel songs, Ras Kuuku indicated that that Nacee has also produced secular songs like ‘Kwen Kwen’, a song he composed for the National Democratic Congress political party.

Apart from his gospel productions, Nacee is also known for secular songs such as ‘Boys Boys’, ‘Dondo’, and ‘Paddy Paddy’, among others.

The artist’s comment about Nacee implies that Nacee’s work on secular songs may have given him a divided brand perception by his music patrons.

Ras Kuuku Expresses Admiration for Mahama

The Ghanaian reggae artist opened up about the inspiration behind his upcoming EP, revealing that it was fueled by the remarkable comeback of former President John Dramani Mahama.

He expressed his admiration for Mahama’s resilience and determination, which influenced his new project.

He recalled how many people, including prominent pastors, had written off Mahama’s chances of returning to power after his tenure ended in 2017.

“My next EP coming was inspired by JDM. Whatever he went through and his journey inspired my EP.”

Ras Kuuku

Ras Kuuku described Mahama’s political comeback as remarkable, noting that the margin with which Mahama won was even greater than the total votes some other candidates managed to pull.

“Looking at his position where people put him as he would never come back, he was someone nobody thought would return. But he came back and won. The gap is even larger than someone else’s win.”

Ras Kuuku

The artist also drew parallels between Mahama’s journey and his own career in music, emphasizing that both are examples of the power of perseverance.

“I see that Ras Kuuku, your brand, and whatever you’re doing is not too late. What’s ahead is what’s significant.”

Ras Kuuku

The reggae/dancehall artist’s reveal underscores the values of hard work, patience, and consistency, advocating that time is a storyteller of the future.
