Musician Shatta Wale has defended Sammy Gyamfi following backlash over a video showing the politician giving money to Evangelist Mama Pat, also known as Agradaa.
The acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was seen handing out dollar notes to Agradaa. The video went viral and sparked criticism, with many calling the act inappropriate.
Shatta Wale took to Facebook to support the young politician, saying he did not understand why the young politician was facing such harsh attacks. He noted that the politician had been helping people on the streets for years and should not be judged based on one act.
“Do you all know when Sammy Gyamfi started helping the streets. All of you should shut up and leave the young man alone if you don’t know about someone’s humble beginnings. We like tarnishing people’s image too much.”

Sammy Gyamfi has since apologised. He explained that the cash gift was a kind gesture and not meant to be public. He said he had no intention of causing any harm and was only helping someone in need, as he has always done.

He admitted the backlash was understandable and said he respects those who were disappointed. Despite the apology, several political analysts and the Minority in Parliament have called for the politician’s removal from John Mahama’s administration.
Agradaa, who once supported the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said that after receiving the money, she now supports the NDC. Her comments added more controversy to the situation.
This development comes just days after President John Mahama launched a new Code of Conduct for government officials. The code focuses on transparency, discipline, and proper behaviour in public office.
Many believe his actions, even if well-intentioned, go against the spirit of the new code.
Agradaa Reacts to Controversy with Sammy Gyamfi

Evangelist Mama Pat, the founder of the Heaven Way Bible Chapel, vowed to renounce her citizenship as a Ghanaian should Sammy Gyamfi lose his job as the acting CEO of Precious Minerals and Marketing Company.
This comes after her recent moments with the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board went viral, putting the politician in trouble. According to her, receiving $800 from a public official should not cost the politician his job.
In a recent video, the controversial televangelist who once used disparaging comments against John Mahama said she would not sit aloof and watch political manipulators use him as a scapegoat.
“Some senior NDC party members are jealous of Sammy Gyamfi’s position and want to use this act of kindness – the $800 gift he gave me as a reason to get him sacked. I swear on my mantle, anointing oil, and Bible that I will sell my church building, divide the proceeds into two, and give Sammy Gyamfi half the amount to start a business.”

In a TikTok video, the Heaven Way Church founder said she would add her money to the $800 and return it to him.
She noted she would search for the National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) office and take footage of herself returning the money to show Ghanaians she kept her word after the backlash.
Agradaa’s threat stirred reactions from netizens.
