Ghanaian reggae/dancehall musician, Stonebwoy has expressed his support for the ongoing #StopGalamseyNow and #FreeTheCitizens protests in Accra.

These three-day demonstrations aim to combat illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, and demand the release of Democracy Hub protesters arrested during a previous protest.

In a post on the social media platform X, Stonebwoy called on the nation’s leaders to take decisive action against the growing problem of galamsey.

He urged both current and future leaders to present clear and detailed plans to tackle the environmental damage caused by illegal mining and to demonstrate a firm commitment to resolving the issue.

“As we touch the streets to advocate for the better. As we walk in the spirit footsteps of the Great ancestors that led us to freedom once upon a time. May our blood, sweat, and tears not remain in vain.

So we implore Gov’t or leadership (incoming or outgoing) to just validate our struggles by showing detailed plans on how to tackle the very pressing issues, such as ‘GALAMSEY’, that face us as Ghanaians and RIGIDLY COMMIT to it. Not forgetting the deplorable state of the Korle Bu mortuary, amongst many others.”

While the protests are focused primarily on ending galamsey, they also address other pressing concerns in Ghana, such as the poor condition of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Despite the serious nature of the protests, participants were seen enjoying music and dancing at the protest grounds.

Stonebwoy has long advocated against illegal mining and the destruction of Ghana’s natural resources, even releasing a song that condemns the issue.

However, during the #FreeTheCitizens and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests, some individuals wildly criticized him for not participating in the demonstrations.

Artist Addresses Relationship With Davido

Stonebwoy opened up about his relationship with Nigerian music star Davido.

The ‘Into The Future’ hitmaker attended a private event in New York to support Davido as he and fashion brand Puma launched their new collection on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

At the event, the dancehall musician congratulated the Nigerian musician, who serves as an ambassador for Puma, for his new achievement. He was also spotted hanging out with Davido’s team members.

In a social media video, Stonebwoy was spotted interacting with Davido and his team members before the unveiling event. The BHIM Nation leader, sporting a Puma Scoots Trail Blazing basketball jersey and black shorts, took photos and danced with the Unavailable hitmaker, who was ecstatic to see him.

The BHIM Nation leader stated that he and the DMW record label boss shared a similar culture despite being from different countries and tribes. “We have a diverse and very beautiful multi-billion intertwined culture that has a fine line of similarity amongst it all. I am an Ewe and he is a Yoruba but we have similarities in our culture.” Stonebwoy said.

Stonebwoy also emphasized the need for people to establish a connection between Africans and those in the diaspora to promote unity.

The two musicians recently reunited in the U.S. and later hit the studios, leading to speculations of a new music collaboration.

Stonebwoy and Davido’s interaction at the latter’s Puma collection unveiling event triggered reactions from fans, who were excited to see the two musicians.

In other news, the dancehall artist went viral after a video of him at the Warner Music record label office surfaced on social media.

Stonebwoy visited the Warner Music record label office in New York, USA, as part of his travel itinerary. The dancehall artist recently went to support Davido at his new collection launch with Puma at a plush private event. He also spoke at a recent panel discussion at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

In a series of social media videos, the BHIM Nation leader, sporting a white T-shirt, black shorts, sneakers, and sunglasses, received a great reception from the staff, who welcomed him as he entered their office. He exchanged pleasantries and conversed with the staff, who were excited to host him in their office.

After the conversation, the Warner Music record label staff applauded Stonebwoy before joining him to jam to his new song ‘Jejereje’, which features Dutch guitarist and music producer Ginton.

Stonebwoy and the staff could be seen dancing and enjoying the exciting new song, which has taken over the airwaves in Ghana and generated a lot of buzz on social media.

The atmosphere was lively, with smiles all around as the group had a memorable time experience with the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) Artiste of the Year.
