Stonebwoy Recounts Wife ‘Pushing’ Him Into GIMPA During COVID Pandemic

Stonebwoy and his wife, Dr. Louisa

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian dancehall and reggae artist, Stonebwoy has revealed that it was his wife’s initiative and wisdom that led to his recent academic achievement.

He spoke at his graduation after-party, having received a Public Administration degree from the prestigious Ghana Institute of Management & Public Administration (GIMPA) on Friday, July 26, 2024.

The artist noted that his wife, with whom he has two children, saw an opportunity to fulfill his heartfelt desire to further his education during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.

Unbeknownst to him, Stonebwoy revealed that his wife registered him at GIMPA.

“That secret is that, one day, when COVID hit, everybody saw the wavelength the world was on; people didn’t know whether to go or to come. But musically, I was just still pushing. I remember I dropped the first album during that COVID [era] in Africa and then, subsequently, people started dropping EPs, blah, blah, blah.

“When people would say: ‘Because of COVID we can’t release’. Everybody was just using COVID as an excuse. Then, I came back home one time from somewhere, and then, my wife said: ‘Surprise! You said you want to go to school. It is done. Here is your ID and other things’. Wow!”

Choosing not to back out, the singer-songwriter and businessman seized the opportunity and made schedule adjustments to give his education the needed attention.

“So I had to know to take like a month to rewire all my veins, and my arteries, and my organs to understand that: ‘Guy, you gotta go to school now’. I wanted to so she just put it through and said: ‘Since it’s downtime a little bit you can’.”

He underlined to his audience of family, friends, industry mates, and well-wishers his respect for learning and education.

The ‘Nominate’ hitmaker noted that he admired the world of governance and politics, caveating, however, he was not indicating he was going to be a politician.

“I said if that’s so they should let me start from level 200 because I’d previously completed a course,” the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year winner beamingly narrated.

On Facebook, Stonebwoy’s wife, Dr Louisa, congratulated him, hinting at more academic laurels: “So proud of this man right here! You did it Etse! Congratulations on your graduation. This is just the beginning.”

On June 17, the pair celebrated their seventh marriage anniversary.

Artist Encourages Seeking ‘Knowledge’ From Formal Education

Stonebwoy asserted that street life and its hardships should not stop one from learning and tasting success.

He also underlined the importance of seeking “knowledge” from rigorous formal education no matter the outstanding achievements one can boast of due to their talents, skills, or experience.

“Although we’re on the streets, we respect the fact that we need to make it in life and also continue to learn. Somebody would say: ‘Why at this time, Stonebwoy? You have achieved some enviable, remarkable feats in your career, why would you want to go back to school? I can only say that it’s important to add knowledge.”

The Reggae/Dancehall star said he had, for years, nurtured a desire to learn about governance because he was intrigued by how the world is run by political powers.

“And I know that I’m very interested in governance and what goes on at the top level so I had to try and get that education. I’m always interested in watching all this political stuff and otherwise. Not to say I want to become a politician but I know that is what runs nations. So I’m always interested in my history, etc.”

‘Give Me Love’ with Mi Casa is Stonebwoy’s latest offering.
