Nigerian singer, Inetimi Timaya Odon better known by his stage name, Timaya has opened up about his reasons for not getting married, highlighting how much harder it is to get out of a marriage than a relationship.

The singer revealed his longstanding hesitance toward the institution of marriage and also spoke on his approach to fathering his four children.

“I’ve never been a married guy right from time but it can change because marriage dey craze? I just look at it like if I marry today, would I be able to get out? In all my previous relationships, I was the one who got out because I don’t like stress.”

Timaya

The ‘Dem Mama’ singer stated that open communication is key for him in relationships because he does not like to keep things to heart.

“If you have a problem with me, let’s talk about it because I don’t like going to bed thinking about things, I go die o. I don’t like anything to bother me at all.”

On fatherhood, the singer disclosed that his children live with their respective mothers, but they maintain a close bond. He explained, “Being a father is stressful because I love them too much but it’s enjoyable.”

“My four kids live with their mothers so when I want to see them, I ask their mothers and they come to my house and we spend two to three months together then they go back to their mothers.

“Christmas is coming and they’d spend it with me as well, but their mothers don’t come because they’re in relationships. We’re all family now so I can’t date any of them, we’re family now and we respect each other.”

Nigerian music star, Timaya recently shared an intriguing story about Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, showcasing the singer’s unwavering self-belief.

Timaya recounted an incident from years ago when he was in a studio with Burna Boy and fellow artists, Omawumi and Waje.

During the session, Burna Boy confidently declared that one day he would be paid to fly on private jets, a bold statement at a time when Nigerian artists hadn’t yet reached such heights.

However, Omawumi and Waje expressed skepticism, doubting the possibility of such a future.

This didn’t sit well with Burna Boy. According to Timaya, the “fearless” artist was so upset by their disbelief that he opened the studio door and asked them to leave.

Reflecting on the moment, Timaya remarked, “Nothing Burna Boy is doing now surprises me. The guy is fearless.”

Today, Burna Boy’s career achievements, including Grammy wins and global recognition, stand as proof of his remarkable self-confidence and determination.

This story is a powerful reminder of the importance of believing in yourself, even when others doubt you.

Timaya and Eedris Abdulkareem

In other news, Timaya claimed that veteran singer, Eedris Abdulkareem is not respected within the music industry because he’s talkative.

He downplayed the host’s attempt to compare his personality with Abdulkareem’s. Timaya inferred: “I don’t talk like Eedris. I don’t behave like him….”

“Nobody is afraid of him because he talks too much. He has always been talkative. I don’t even want people to be afraid of me. I respect myself so that people will respect me.”

Timaya

On his relationship with Eedris Abdulkareem, he revealed that he has never had any problem with Eedris, stating that it was just a relationship between the boss and apprentice.

“I don’t even think he knows my name at that time. I only give him a shoutout because he was part of my success story. We don’t have any reason to communicate.

“When I was serving in his band, he didn’t have any reason to build a relationship with me. When people are serving you don’t act like you’re tolerating them, treat them like family because you don’t know tomorrow.”
