South Africa’s music sensation is once again taking the world by storm. The 2025 BET Awards have officially announced their nominations, and Tyla is proudly flying the South African flag high.

This year, she has been nominated for the prestigious Best International Act category—an achievement that confirms her place among the world’s top artists.

The 25th anniversary of the BET Awards is set to be a grand celebration, hosted by comedian Kevin Hart and airing live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 9 at 8 p.m. ET (2:00 a.m. CAT on BET Africa, DStv Channel 129).

Known for honouring Black excellence in music, entertainment, and culture, the Awards continue to showcase talent from around the globe—and this year is no exception.

Tyla is not the only South African name making waves on the list. Fellow artists Uncle Waffles, Maglera Doe Boy, Dlala Thukzin, and TxC have also earned nominations.

In the Best International Act category, Tyla stands proudly alongside Uncle Waffles, representing South Africa with flair and talent. They will be competing with other standout artists from Nigeria, Brazil, the UK, and France.

According to The South African, Monde Twala, Senior Vice President & Co-General Manager at Paramount Africa, praised the impact African artists are making on the world stage.

“At BET, we are proud to continue elevating and celebrating Black excellence on a global scale. The 2025 nominations reflect the incredible creativity, influence, and impact of African artists who are shaping culture and pushing boundaries. Tyla and her peers represent the diversity and heartbeat of a new generation, and the global resonance of our sounds.”

Monde Twala

The songstress’s rise has been extraordinary. Last year, she walked away with two major Awards—Best New Artist and Best International Act—firmly cementing her place as a rising global superstar.

With yet another nomination under her belt, the singer continues to inspire a new generation of African talent and music lovers around the world. All eyes will be on her as the Awards approach.
