The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central Constituency, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has emerged as the front-runner to replace the Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency and current Majority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

This development follows Dr Forson’s appointment as Minister of Finance by President John Dramani Mahama, a role that is expected to demand his full attention.

Hon. Mahama Ayariga has an impressive legal and political pedigree. As a Harvard-trained lawyer, he holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Ghana, Legon.

Beyond his legal credentials, Hon. Ayariga is a seasoned politician with substantial ministerial experience. Under the erstwhile Mahama administration, Hon. Ayariga served as Minister of Information and Media Relations, where he played a critical role in government communication.

Public Endorsements for Ayariga’s Leadership

The news of Hon. Ayariga’s potential appointment has sparked significant public interest, with key figures praising his suitability for the role.

Osagyefo Mawuse Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a Constitutional, Rights & Policy Strategy Advisor at the Democracy Accountability Hub, described Hon. Ayariga as a “solid choice.“

In a statement, Barker-Vormawor highlighted the MP’s discipline, principles, and intellectual acumen, underscoring his competence for the Majority Leader’s position in the current Parliament.

“Mahama Ayariga is solid. Definitely one of the best choices the NDC could have made. I look forward to his leadership of the Majority caucus. He is principled, disciplined in thought and speech”.
