CLOGSAG Calls On Government To Fulfil Its Promise To Pay Neutrality Allowance

CLOSAG Ashanti Region Head Office

The Civil And Local Staff Association Of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has called on government to fulfil its promise to pay the neutrality allowance as it has failed to provide the promised payment plan for the allowance.

The group disclosed that it met with government and the National Labor Commission to resolve its concerns when government agreed to present a payment plan, but that has not been done.

The National Organizer for CLOGSAG, Emmanuel Acquah, speaking about the ongoing strike cautioned that until the government does the needful by paying the neutrality allowance, they will not return to work.

“You will recall that the NLC gave the government a directive to meet with us and come out with a payment plan. So, we were to report what had transpired between ourselves and government to NLC. However, when we went there, government needed extra 2 days because they said they were going to the cabinet on the next day, and they will get the payment plan directed.”

According to the CLOGSAG National Organizer, the week ended and no feedback was given to the group either from government or the National Labor Commission. “So, that is where we are“. He recalled that after the meeting with government, the National Labor Commission’s Executive Secretary granted an interview to the media and told the media what had transpired at the meeting with the Commission indicating an end of the strike.

“And they emphatically stated that we are to call off the strike based on the payment plan they were to come up with. As we speak, nothing like that has come to our table and we are still on the strike.”

CLOGSAG strike continues unabated

Earlier, a statement by CLOGSAG averred that the two weeks strike action continues unabated. The Group enjoined members to be steadfast to the cause till the reason for them embarking on the strike is attended to.

“It should be noted that by the letter number GA3Vol.2 dated March 30, 2022, CLOGSAG declared its intention to embark on strike to press home its demand for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) entered into with government on January 20, 2022.”

The statement indicated that the action has become necessary as a result of government’s failure to fulfil its side of the agreement since February, 2022. According to CLOGSAG, the industrial action that has been taken is one that is legal and continues till further notice. It enjoined the members to be resolute and committed to the cause and stay at home until further notice.

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has been on an industrial strike since April 21, 2022 over government’s failure to pay its members their neutrality allowance. According to CLOGSAG, despite official reminders and follow ups to the Finance Ministry, payment of the allowance has not been effected after more than three months as agreed.
