Ghanaian Financer and Economist, Mr. Andrew Kwame Pianim has advised the government to minimize its spending with regards to the current economic challenges.

He added that the government must show that it cares and wishes to see the economy stabilize by cutting expenditure.

Speaking in an interview on October 27, he indicated that people are suffering and this should not be the time for any irritation as it can worsen the situation.

“Cut expenditure, not planting GRA officers in shops. Things are not going well and we are looking for the President to come up the way he did during Covid, we need a credible message from him that I am going to cut expenditure to stabilize the economy.

“Look people are suffering, and when people are suffering, that is not when you will introducing new things and policies”

Mr Pianim

Mr Pianim mentioned that, all the flagship programs of the government, including the free senior high school policy should be looked at and reviewed for efficiency.

Mr Pianim

He further stated that he is a Ghanaian and he’s much interested in seeing the economy move in the right direction .

Mr Pianim indicated that he has had the opportunity to talk to the President and even opportunity to send messages about this to him but to no avail.

He added that this is the first time he has seen such unprecedented hardships being visited on Ghana. He emphazied that the crisis can result in violence.

Ghana’s economy has been going through severe challenges, a situation the government has consistently blamed on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

IMF Deal Not Going On Well

The Economist disclosed that the negotiation between government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is not going well.

He added that what the IMF is waiting for, is a bold and credible pronouncement by the President as he did during the time of covid.

“The IMF negotiation is not going on well. I know this for a fact. The President should come out to say; there is nothing I wouldn’t do to stabilize the economy of the country.”

Kwame Pianim

Mr Pianim further stated that the Finance Minister, Hon Ken Ofori Atta is not a credible representative for the government in the negotiation.

He however asked the government to act immediately to tackle the situation in order to avert a possible violence.
