In the by-election on Tuesday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is urging residents of the Kumawu constituency to cast a sizable number of ballots in favor of the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate.
The seat is being sought after by the two major political parties, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC). The NPP and NDC’s top leaders have stepped up their efforts to guarantee that their candidate wins the seat as the hotly anticipated by-election in Kumawu is ready to take place.
President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are persuading delegates to support their party’s nominee, while former President John Dramani Mahama is arguing forcefully for the NDC.
The two independent candidates in the race have also vowed to cause an upset.
On Sunday, May 21, 2023, Kumawu was the site of a politically charged gathering organized by the NPP. The President who endorsed Ernest Yaw Anim, urged the supporters to vote for him during the NPP’s final rally in the Constituency.
“The replacement for Philip Basoah is handsome, humble, and kind-hearted and is ready to serve you. He has united all members of the party in this constituency. Ernest Yaw Anim deserves to do the job. He’s number one on the ballot paper, place your thumb on where you see him, we don’t want any deceptive candidate.”

In order to achieve a resounding victory, Ernest Yaw Anim, the NPP’s candidate for Kumawu, advised his supporters to shun complacency and turn out in large numbers to vote. “Let’s all go out in our numbers to vote massively for me to win,” he urged.
President Akufo-Addo, his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other NPP stalwarts led the NPP rally, which was also attended by Stephen Ntim, the NPP’s National Chairman, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Agriculture Minister and a candidate for flagbearer.
Bawumia Urges Kumawu Constituency To Vote Massively For Ernest Anim
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) followers to vote en masse for Ernest Yaw Anim, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Kumawu, on Tuesday, May 23.
Prior to the by-election, the Vice President spoke with NPP supporters in Kumawu and highlighted that they wanted to demonstrate to Ghana that Kumawu was NPP territory and that the NPP is likely to win the seat.
“In this by-election, we want the whole of Ghana to know that Kumawu is NPP’s territory. With love, come out in your numbers to vote for our parliamentary candidate Ernest Yaw Anim to win this by-election. He’s humble, hard-working and intelligent. He will ensure Kumawu is developed. I like him a lot, let’s all come together to vote for him boom boom.”

In Kumawu and the surrounding areas, Dr. Bawumia, his wife Samira Bawumia, and other NPP executives have been actively canvassing for support for the party’s parliamentary candidate.
The Vice President praised the NPP’s accomplishments and warned the electorate about the projects they would miss, if they supported the NDC candidate.
“Vote for the NPP’s candidate to go to parliament to bring development to the constituency. The NDC should know that we haven’t forgotten the dumsor era. Do you want us to experience dumsor again?”

They thereafter introduced the parliamentary candidate to the local chiefs and residents.
John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, on the other hand also urged NDC supporters in Kumawu to cast a large number of votes for Kwasi Amankwaa, widely known as “Tom Cee,” the party’s parliamentary candidate.
Due to the large number of security personnel who have been stationed there ahead of the by-election, Kumawu is under constant surveillance.
The four contenders are two independents, Kwasi Amankwaa of the NDC, and Ernest Yaw Anim of the NPP.
