Gyampo Advises Atta Akyea To Recuse From Plot To Oust IGP Probe

Political scientist, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has called on Samuel Atta Akyea, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee of parliament tasked to probe the alleged plot to oust IGP Dampare to recuse himself from the probe.

According to him, Mr Atta Akyea isn’t “smarter than Ghanaians”, who are capable and can “glean your partiality”. He revealed that the body language, line of questioning and recurring remarks by the chairman consistently hints at personal biases against the IGP.

“Dear Atta Akyea, it is not by force to chair this committee, especially when your work output is more of a disservice. If you don’t have any personal interest in this matter, then recuse yourself or get replaced by Speaker, as your role is more of a nuisance, and annoying, particularly when you think we are unable to read in between the lines. Just recuse yourself, it is not by force!

Prof Ransford Gyampo

Furthermore, Prof Gyampo stated that Mr Atta Akyea doesn’t look like a “credible chairman of any important committee”. Rather, he noted that the chairman of the committee looks more like a defense counsel for the “bitter” police officers whose “quest to be made IGPs so they can subvert the will of the people has been exposed”.

IGP commended for impact within service

Meanwhile, Prof Gyampo commended the IGP for a good work within the service. He indicated that the service undertaken by the current IGP gives credence to his character.

“Wait, if you get the chance to be made an IGP for the purposes of rigging elections, you can sit in your Land-cruiser and be bossy. For Dampare, he wants to role his sleeves and deliver an impartial policing that assures general security, promotes discipline on our roads and protects the will of the people.”

Moreover, Prof Gyampo explained that IGP Dampare has demystified policing to the admiration of all well-meaning Ghanaians. To this end, he highlighted that “nation wreckers” aren’t wiser than the discerning citizenry.

“They can rant, gossip and plan all subversive activities, but these would amount to merely romancing a stone.”

The chairman of the committee who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, prior to this, revealed that the viral leaked tape on Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare’s removal appears to be doctored.

Mr Atta Akyea, stated that the tape which has been circulating on social media, is a shorter version than the new tape delivered to the committee by the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu.

The viral leaked tape on IGP Dampare has been the subject of much discussion and debate. Bugri Naabu had earlier confirmed to the committee that the tape was authentic.

The leaked tape contains a conversation between Bugri Naabu and three senior Police Officers – COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – plotting the removal of the IGP to help the NPP rig the 2024 elections.

Appearing before the committee on September 13, 2023, IGP Dampare dismissed allegations made against him by the Police Officers, indicating that those “wild allegations” caused his family severe pain.

The IGP also refuted the allegations that he was part of a conspiracy to secretly record conversations of the three implicated police officers.
