Samuel Pyne, the Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has disclosed he has been friends with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for more than ten years.
The Kumasi Mayor claimed that he never became friends with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia because he had intentions to run for President, but rather, because he has always admired the Vice President from a distance (since 2012), due to what he described as the Veep’s “humility, experience, and knowledge.”
Moreover, Mr. Pyne claimed that because of their close relationship, Dr. Bawumia contacts him each year to wish him on his Birthday.
“Since 2012, when I became close with him, every March 13, he calls or texts to wish me a happy birthday, and this is a single attribute that he respects and acknowledges that there is someone called Sam Pyne who works for the NPP.”

This information was revealed by Mr. Pyne as he discussed Dr. Bawumia as his first choice, among the 10 candidates running to be the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.
The NPP will have a special delegates conference on August 26, 2023, with 900 delegates present, to choose the five contestants for the presidential primary on November 4, 2023.
Among the five contenders, Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyerematen, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are expected to easily overcome the first hurdle of the contest on August 26. The other contenders are Joe Ghartey, Francis Addai-Nimoh, Boakye Agyarko, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and Ernest Kwadwo Poku.
Team Bawumia Launches Platforms To Reach Out
The committed team of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced a strategic plan that is based on a “strong signal” and three important points of connection.
The decision was made as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal political environment heats up as a result of its Presidential primaries. The campaign team has determined that the “strong signal” is meant to demonstrate the Vice President’s resolve, vision, and unshakable passion to governing the country.
Team Bawumia has established a Website, Mobile App, and USSD digital platform to communicate with supporters and stakeholders in an effort to improve their campaigning efforts. Prior to the next elections, the team is utilizing technology to ensure a broader audience reach and participation.
The establishment of a special code, *202#, a website (www.bawumia.com), and USSD, which allow supporters to provide their quota to the Bawumia Campaign and also interact and follow his campaign intently, is the highlight of their digital campaign.
The project attempts to capitalize on Ghana’s rising mobile phone adoption rate, where practically everyone has access to one. With this creative strategy, Team Bawumia hopes to leverage technology to mobilize money and support for their campaign. People can stay informed about the most recent events, videos, and news surrounding the Bawumia Campaign by using these channels.
Speaking about the digital campaign, a member of Team Bawumia stated, “We recognize the importance of technology in today’s world. By leveraging these digital platforms, we can connect with our supporters and engage with them more interactively. It allows us to reach a wider audience and promote the vision and agenda of Vice President Bawumia.”
The digital campaign is consistent with a larger trend in Ghana’s political scene toward digitalization. Political parties are increasingly utilizing digital tools to interact with people and successfully spread their messages as internet and mobile phone usage rises.
Team Bawumia hopes to use technology to its fullest capacity by launching the dialing code and other digital platforms in order to raise support and communicate its campaign message.
However, it is yet unclear how well this internet campaign will influence voters and affect the outcome as the election gets nearer.
