Minority Reiterates The Sins Of Bank Of Ghana

The Minority Caucus has reiterated that the sins of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison and his Deputy Governors are unpardonable.

The Minority Leader accused the leadership of the Central Bank of being responsible for illegally and excessively printing of money to finance the reckless expenditure of the ‘corrupt and wasteful Akuffo-Addo and Bawumia administration’.

According to the Minority Leader, the actions of the Central Bank pushed over 850,000 Ghanaians below the poverty line.

Again, the Caucus accused the leadership of the Central Bank of writing off the government’s indebtedness of GHS48.4 billion to the Bank without the approval of Parliament and recorded a staggering and unprecedented loss of GHS 60.8 billion in 2022.

“The central bank is bankrupt and insolvent”.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson

According to the Ajumako Enyan Esiam legislator, the National Democratic Congress Minority Caucus in Parliament does not believe that Governor Dr Ernest Addison and his two Deputy Governors who have caused such a mess at the Bank are capable of fixing ttheir mess.

It is therefore calling for a new set of leadership that is politically neutral and able to perform the functions of a central bank in line with its mandate.

“We want a new leadership that can rebuild trust and confidence in the markets, the investor community and the general public”.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson

Dr Ato Forson also berated the deliberate refusal of the leadership of the Bank of Ghana to have appreciated the seriousness of Tuesday’s October 3  #OccupyBOGProtest.

It therefore indicated that it will undertake every legitimate means, including more protests, to back its demand for the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two Deputy Governors.

Minority Caucus Expresses Its Gratitude To Participants Of Its #OccupyBOGProtest

The Minority Caucus in Parliament expressed its deepest appreciation to its participants during yesterday, Tuesday 3 October 2023 #OccupyBOGProtest held in Accra to demand the resignation and or removal of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two Deputy Governors.

In a statement released by the Minority Leader, Honorable Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Caucus indicated that it is very grateful to the thousands of people who showed up for the protest to register their revulsion at the mismanagement of the Bank of Ghana by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison and his two Deputy Governors.

According to the Minority Caucus, the massive turnout of the #OccupyBOGProtest is a clear message to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two Deputies that the people of Ghana have lost confidence in their governorship and that their continuous stay at the Bank of Ghana is untenable.

“On behalf of the Minority Caucus in Parliament and our collaborating partners for the #OccupyBOGProtest, I sincerely thank all those who joined Tuesday’s protest in Accra to demand the resignation and or removal of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two Deputy Governors

Our sincere gratitude goes to the leadership and rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Arise Ghana, PNC, GCPP, PPP, ACP, Ghana Union Movement, COPEC Ghana, FOCAP, ASEPA, Justice for Ghana, the Okada Drivers Association of Ghana, Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, Actors for Change, United Motor Association, Fishermen and Fish Mongers, leading figures of Fix the Country Movement, Kayayei and all other stakeholders for your unflinching support”.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson

The Caucus also assured the Ghanaian people that it shall remain resolute and unwavering in upholding the national interest and holding the feet of the current government to the fire of accountability.

“To the people of Ghana who stood with us throughout our community engagements and turned out in your thousands for this historic protest, we salute your courage and patriotism”

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson
